Sepsis/septic shock activates the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) to deal with the infection stress. However, an imbalanced or maladaptive response due to excessive or uncontrolled activation characterizes autonomic dysfunction. Our hypothesis was that reducing this excessive activation of the autonomic nervous system would impact positively in sepsis.

We studied whether this distinct behavior was related to α1 adrenergic receptor density, G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) and the putative role of nitric oxide (NO). Sepsis was induced in female mice by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP).

There has also been increasing interest in the potential effects of high-fructose intake on behavior. The present study evaluated sex differences in behavioral and metabolic characteristics in response to chronic fructose intake in mice.

In response, the goal of our study was to investigate the therapeutic potential of phenolic compounds in the in vivo inflammatory process induced by P. acnes.

Even though antioxidant activities of many fruits have been reported, the effects of phytochemicals of goji berry (GB) in patients with metabolic syndrome have not been investigated. In this study, we examined anthropometric and biochemical parameters in patients with metabolic syndrome after the consumption of GB.

Objective: The present study was designed to compare the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of methanolic extracts of Lycium barbarum (GOJI), Vaccinium macrocarpon (CRAN) and Vaccinium myrtillus (BLUE).
Materials And Methods: Mices were treated with extracts (50 and 200 mg/kg, p.
Background: Drinking mate or chimarrão, a hot infusion of Ilex paraguariensis (ILEX) leaves, is a common habit in Southern South America that has a social and almost ritualistic role. It has been used as a stimulant beverage in South America and analgesic in regions of Argentina for treatment of headache and others painful inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological activity of I.
Objective: Vascular dysfunction plays a central role in sepsis, and it is characterized by hypotension and hyporesponsiveness to vasoconstrictors. Nitric oxide is regarded as a central element of sepsis vascular dysfunction. The high amounts of nitric oxide produced during sepsis are mainly derived from the inducible isoform of nitric oxide synthase 2.

However, it is not clear whether the use of analgesia may affect some parameters evaluated in experimental sepsis research. Therefore, we investigated the effects of fentanyl and tramadol in experimental sepsis in the rat.

A time course of the expression and activity of sGC in a sepsis model [cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)] was evaluated in rats. Soluble GC alpha-1 and beta-1 subunit mRNA levels increased in the lungs, but not in the aorta.

This plant is used in folk medicine for the treatment of several inflammatory diseases, leukaemia, ulcers and other pathologies. Previous studies demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities and the objective of this work was to investigate a possible antinociceptive action of ethanolic extract of Croton celtidifolius bark (EE) and ethyl acetate fraction (EAF), n-butanol fraction (FBuOH), and aqueous fraction (FAq) obtained from EE.

Doses of Ro5-4864 that did not produce an antinociceptive effect when injected by the intraperitoneal route presented an analgesic effect, if infected by the intracerebroventricular, intrathecal or intraplantar routes. PK11195 pretreatments with intrathecal, intracerebroventricular or intraplantar doses had no effect in the formalin test.
