Objectives: to analyze the process of permanent professional training of Primary Health Care nurse managers from the perspective of reflective practice theory, built by Donald Schön.

Methods: this is a theoretical-reflective study.

Results: the findings apply to nurse managers' practice to deal with the dilemmas that present themselves in the professional routine according to their knowledge, skills and attitudes, anchored in the reflection-in-action movement, which unites the process of permanent and practical training reflective, favoring the development of skills relevant to management.

Objective: to describe the actions performed by nurses in the preceptorship of students in the Basic Health Unit (Portuguese acronym: UBS); to identify the knowledge of nurses and competencies they need to acquire or develop in order to act in the preceptorship of students in the UBS; to discuss the implications of the pedagogical practice of preceptor nurses in their own continuing education.

This is an experience report on the PRÓ-CUIDEM project, in meetings coordinated by nurse teachers in Niterói-RJ, Brazil. The results are focused on caregivers who need guidance, expressed during the group meetings, where their doubts are clarified, making them feel less anxious and more willing to take care of the elderly, with understanding of the elderly's health problem and, especially, to take care of their own health. One conclude that caring for the elderly with dementia is a difficult task when there is no support and guidance, being of fundamental importance the nursing care aiming to improve the caregivers' quality of life and, in consequence, the quality of life of the elderly with dementia.
