A new species of entomopathogenic fungus, Metarhizium indicum, which derives its species epithet after its Indian origin is reported here. The fungus was found to cause natural epizootics in leafhopper (Busoniomimus manjunathi) infesting Garcinia gummi-gutta (Malabar tamarind), an evergreen spice tree native to South and Southeast Asia, known for its use as a culinary flavourant, dietary supplement and traditional remedy for various human ailments. The fungus was found to cause more than 60% mortality in field collected insects.

An entomopathogenic fungus was isolated from an infected larva of Conogethes punctiferalis (Guenée) (Crambidae: Lepidoptera), a highly polyphagous pest recorded from more than 120 plants and widely distributed in Asia and Oceanic countries. The fungus was identified as Metarhizium pingshaense Q.T.

Serotonin receptor, 5-HTR, agonists and partial agonists have established drug candidates for psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Recently, we reported the synthesis and evaluation of arylpiperazine derivatives of 3,5-dioxo-(2H,4H)-1,2,4-triazine as 5-HTR ligands. Herein, we generated a homology model of the receptor and docked the ligands against it, predicted the stability of the receptor model and complexes by molecular dynamics and generated a 3D-QSAR model for the arylpiperazine derivatives of 3,5-dioxo-(2H,4H)-1,2,4-triazine.

An entomopathogenic fungus, Lecanicillium psalliotae strain IISR-EPF-02 previously found infectious to cardamom thrips, Sciothrips cardamomi promoted plant growth in cardamom, Elettaria cardamomum. The isolate exhibited direct plant growth promoting traits by production of indole-3-acetic acid and ammonia and by solubilizing inorganic phosphate and zinc. It also showed indirect plant growth promoting traits by producing siderophores and cell wall-degrading enzymes like, α-amylases, cellulases and proteases.

The oomycetous phytopathogen Pythium myriotylum secretes cellulases for growth/nutrition of the necrotroph. Cellulases are multi-enzyme system classified into different glycoside hydrolase (GH) families. The present study deals with identification and characterization of GH gene sequence from P.

Progressive increase in extracellular proteolytic activity with respect to growth was detected in cultures of necrotrophic oomycete Pythium myriotylum Dreschler with maximum activity detected at stationary phase of growth. The secretory protease from P. myriotylum designated, spPm1 was purified to homogeneity giving a single band of 47 kDa molecular mass on non-reducing SDS-PAGE and exhibiting caseinolytic activity in the zymogram.

An extracellular endoglucanase (EG) that catalyzes the hydrolysis of carboxy-methyl cellulose (CMC) as substrate was purified to homogeneity from the soft-rot causing oomycete P. myriotylum with maximum EG production observed in presence of 1% (w/v) sucrose. The enzyme designated PmEG was observed to be monomeric with a molecular weight of 78 kDa as estimated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).

Induced biosynthesis of bioactive secondary metabolites constitutes one of the mechanisms of plant basal innate immunity to fungal infection. Metabolic changes were studied in rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet, a wild congener of ginger, after infection with soft rot-causative necrotrophic phytopathogen, Pythium myriotylum, by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Infection triggered a considerable alteration in the relative content of zerumbone and α-caryophyllene (humulene) with enhancement in zerumbone content (81.

Pythium myriotylum, an oomycetous necrotroph is the causal agent of soft rot disease affecting several crops. Successful colonization by necrotrophs depends on their secretion of a diverse array of plant cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs). The induction dynamics of CWDEs secreted by P.
