Noninvasive approach to treatment of submental fullness.

A recent survey done by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery indicated that 67% of respondents were bothered by "excess fat under the chin/neck." Accumulation of fat in the preplatysmal compartment of the neck is a common cause for fullness in the submental area. In the past, surgical liposuction was the only option to remove fat in the submental area.

USG of the breast is now an established modality. It is used in the characterisation of focal breast lesions as well as in the primary evaluation of mammographically dense breasts. It helps guide biopsies as well.

A pilot study on the use of a plasma skin regeneration device (Portrait PSR3) in full facial rejuvenation procedures.

A new modality, the Portrait plasma skin regeneration (PSR(3)) system, allows precise and rapid treatment of photo-damaged skin, with controlled thermal injury and modification. Radio frequency (RF) energy converts nitrogen gas into plasma within the handpiece. Rapid heating of the skin occurs as the plasma rapidly gives up energy to the skin.

Combined nonablative rejuvenation techniques.

Background: Nonablative technologies have been used for fine lines and improvement of skin texture without significant downtime. Nonablative technologies may also be used in combination.

Objective: To present a brief review on nonablative technologies and discuss using nonablative procedures in combination and with other adjunctive therapies.

Treatment of an amalgam tattoo with a Q-switched alexandrite (755 nm) laser.

Background: Amalgam tattoos result from deposition of metallic particles (eg, silver, mercury, copper, zinc, and tin) into the oral mucosa. Their clinical and histologic appearance is similar to that of decorative tattoos.

Objective: To describe the successful use of a Q-switched alexandrite laser for removal of an amalgam tattoo.
