Successful reversal of intestinal obstruction by PRRT: two case reports and literature review of PRRT in Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors with mesenteric fibrosis.

Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) typically follow an indolent disease course and are often accompanied by mesenteric lymph node metastases upon diagnosis. These tumors can incite a fibroblastic reaction within the mesenteric root. Here, we present two cases of patients with symptomatic small bowel obstruction due to such mesenteric involvement.

An unusual case of high gastrointestinal bleeding after Whipple surgery.

Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive malignancy with poor survival rates. Pancreatic surgery has improved outcomes in the last few decades, but still contains high morbidity rates. Pancreatic fistula, delayed gastric emptying, intra-abdominal infections and bleeding are well-known complications.

A tree-based approach to identify indispensable foods in minimum-cost food baskets.

Introduction: Optimization techniques, such as linear programming, can be used to estimate the minimum cost of a nutrient-adequate food basket, to determine if individuals or households can afford nutritious diets. These cost estimates typically account for seasonal fluctuations but often overlook significant disruptions in the availability of affordable nutritious food that can severely impact food and nutrition security.

Methods: This paper proposes a tree-based method, the binary search tree, to assess the resilience of the cost estimate of the minimum-cost food basket.

Learning physics-based reduced-order models from data using nonlinear manifolds.

We present a novel method for learning reduced-order models of dynamical systems using nonlinear manifolds. First, we learn the manifold by identifying nonlinear structure in the data through a general representation learning problem. The proposed approach is driven by embeddings of low-order polynomial form.

Localized non-intrusive reduced-order modelling in the operator inference framework.

This paper presents data-driven learning of localized reduced models. Instead of a global reduced basis, the approach employs multiple local approximation subspaces. This localization permits adaptation of a reduced model to local dynamics, thereby keeping the reduced dimension small.

A case series of 3 patients with acute colonic pseudo-obstruction after vincristine administration.

Acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO) or Ogilvie's syndrome is characterized by acute colonic dilatation in the absence of mechanical obstruction. It usually occurs in hospitalized patients with acute illness or following surgical procedures, but several medications such as cytotoxic chemotherapy can also induce ACPO. We report three cases of patients with Ogilvie's syndrome after induction therapy with vincristine-containing chemotherapy.

Measuring exercise adherence in patients with low back pain: development, validity, and reliability of the EXercise Adherence Scale (EXAS).

Objectives: To develop an instrument to measure adherence to frequency, intensity, and quality of performance of home-based exercise (HBE) programs recommended by a physical therapist and to evaluate its construct validity and reliability in patients with low back pain.

Methods: The Exercise Adherence Scale (EXAS) was developed following a literature search, an expert panel review, and a pilot test. The construct validity of the EXAS was determined based on data from 27 participants through an investigation of the convergent validity between adherence, lack of time to exercise, and lack of motivation to exercise.

Long-term outcomes of patients with ulcerative proctitis: Analysis from a large referral centre cohort.

Introduction: Long-term outcomes of patients with ulcerative proctitis (UP) have been poorly investigated, since these patients are excluded from participation in randomized controlled clinical trials.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic and therapeutic long-term outcomes of patients with UP.

Methods: A retrospective study of patients with UP followed at our referral centre between 1 January 1998 and 1 January 2019 was performed.

Optical modeling of changeable laser image functionality with analysis of the viewing performance.

Changeable laser image is a security feature commonly used on personalized documents. To understand and to predict the influence of different design parameters, a holistic optical modeling approach is essential. In this work a two-stage modeling process is performed using geometric ray tracing methods.

[Mediative therapy in home care for older adults: unknown and unused].

Little is known concerning specific psychological interventions in home care for older adults with behavioral problems. This case study of a male with offensive verbal behaviour gives an impression of a targeted psychosocial intervention program. Interventions in which irrational cognitions are detected and challenged, and replaced with more helpful attitudes, were trained in role-playing.

[Mediative behavior therapy in complex behavioral problems. Illustrative cases from a psychogeriatric nursing home].

An application in a psychogeriatric nursing home. This article describes the application of mediative behaviour therapy in a psychogeriatric nursing home. Behavioural interventions carried out by the nursing team addressed a variety of problems: quarreling between an institutionalised woman and her visiting husband, complaining about this staff by the husband to team members of another department, and the patient who let herself drop on the floor about once a week.

Rehabilitation: an 'everyday' motivation model.

In this article a model is presented to deal with motivational problems of rehabilitation patients. The problem of motivation is not covered yet in relevant psychological disciplines like rehabilitation psychology, neuropsychology and health psychology. An important source of the model is cognitive psychology.
