The semi-pilot scale bioleaching of electroplating sludge by the moderately thermophilic acidophilic consortium was carried out for the first time. During the microbial cultivation, Leptospirillum ferriphilum CS13, Acidithiobacillus caldus S2, and Sulfobacillus acidophilus CS5 could grow rapidly in a 300 L aeration packed reactor, in which the total suspended cell concentration could fluctuate around 3 × 10 cells/mL and the community structure remained relatively stable. During the bioleaching process, the microbial stock solution could effectively leach heavy metals from electroplating sludge in a stirred reactor within a few hours.

Capillary electrophoresis-systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (CE-SELEX) has proven to be an effective technique for aptamers selection. In this study, we present an online reaction based convenient single-step CE-SELEX (ssCE-SELEX) mode with human thrombin (H-Thr) as a model target. Pear psylla, Cacopsylla chinensis (Yang & Li) are present as two seasonal morphotypes in pear orchards where they, suck phloem sap, defoliate pear trees, and cause fruit russet. Despite the importance of natural enemies in psyllid control, the interactions between predators and the two seasonal morphotypes of psyllids remain poorly documented. To expand the applications of graphene in optoelectronic devices, B, Al, Si, Ge, As, and Sb doped graphenes (marked as B-G, Al-G, Si-G, Ge-G, As-G, and Sb-G, respectively) were synthesised. The geometric structures, population analyses, and also electronic and optical properties of these doped graphene materials were investigated employing the density functional theory (DFT) method. It was shown that the band gaps of doped graphenes were opened and their absorption spectra were red-shifted by the addition of doping atoms, and their dielectric functions and refractive indexes of low frequency were decreased compared with those of pure graphene.

In this paper, we propose an anti-disturbance backstepping control approach with extended state observer (ESO) for tracking control of air-breathing hypersonic vehicles. Considering the large uncertainties, the external disturbances, and especially the lack of aerodynamic knowledge, several ESOs are introduced in the backstepping controller. With the total disturbance estimation ability of ESOs, almost no aerodynamic knowledge is needed for the controller design.

Given that the biological functions of proteins may decrease or even be lost due to degradation by proteases, it is of great significance to identify potential proteases that degrade protein drugs during systemic circulation. In this work, we describe a method based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to identify key proteases that degrade therapeutic proteins in blood, including endopeptidases and exopeptidases. Here, the degradation of proteins was detected by competition with standard substrates of proteases and is shown as the relative residue rate.

In order to improve manganese-SOD stability, three mutations were constructed via site-directed mutagenesis, and the root mean square fluctuation (RMSF) and root mean square deviation (RMSD) were used as stability assessment indexes. The amino acids of V140, E155 and E215 from wild-type mouse Mn-SOD was replaced to L140, W155 and W215, and a recombinant plasmid containing DNA segment coding wild-type and mutant Mn-SOD protein was transformed into Escherichia coli BL21 for expression. The highest enzyme activity of the mutations-MnSOD was 2050 U/mg.

Background: The natural history of the thoracic false lumen after coil embolization for type B aortic dissection (TBAD) treated by previous thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) remains a matter of debate. Guiyu is known as one of the largest e-waste disposal and recycling sites in China, which suffers greatly from heavy metal pollution.
