A case history of Paget's disease around the hip is presented from 1977 (intraoperative diagnosis) to 1998. Primary Weller THR as well as revision PM replacement in 1990 failed due to loosening. The use of bisodium pamidronian (Aredia, Ciba-Geigy) allowed for loosening arrest (remission of pain, preservation of extremity length, no further radiological changes) for 4 years.

An analysis included causes of disorders, calcium-phosphorus metabolism disturbances, lipid and purine disorders. Statistical parameters were compared with the type of diabetes mellitus, duration of the disease, sex, age and obesity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAn increased level of glycoproteins (seromucoid, protein-bound hexoses, protein-bound hexosamines, protein-bound sialic acids) was found in the blood serum from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as compared with healthy individuals. Higher glycoprotein content was observed in the seropositive RA patients than in the seronegative ones. Higher levels of glycoproteins was also observed in the synovial fluid from seropositive RA patients than in the seronegative ones.
