In the binuclear title complex, [La(CHO)(CHN)(HO)](NO)·0.5HO, the two lanthanum ions are nine coordinate in a distorted trigonal-prismatic geometry. Each La ion is bonded to three N atoms of the Schiff base, 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-ene)hydrazine and is coordinated by one acetate group, which acts in -bidentate mode and two acetate groups that act in -mode between the two La ions.

Introduction: Abdominal surgical emergencies have a high mortality rate. Effective management primarily relies on the early identification of patients at high risk of postoperative complications. The objective of our study was to determine the prognostic factors associated with poor outcomes from abdominal surgical emergencies in Senegal and to establish a predictive score for mortality for preoperative risk evaluation (NDAR (New Death Assessment Risk) score).

The chemical reaction of 4-bromo-benzoyl-chloride and 2-amino-thia-zole in the presence of potassium thio-cyanate yielded a white solid formulated as CHBrNOS, which consists of 4-bromo-benzamido and 2-benzo-thia-zolyl moieties connected by a thio-urea group. The 4-bromo-benzamido and 2-benzo-thia-zolyl moieties are in a conformtion (sometimes also called -trans due to the single bond) with respect to the N-C bond. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the 4-bromo-phenyl and the 2-benzo-thia-zolyl units is 10.

Termites are one of the most common pests that damage wood and other cellulosic materials Although Africa has more varieties of termite species than any other continent, few entomological studies have been conducted in Gabon. Identifying termites poses significant difficulties for entomologists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and confirm the significance of MALDI-TOF MS in identifying fresh termites collected in equatorial Africa.

The reaction of the Schiff base 2-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene-amino]-ethanol (H), which is formed by reaction of 2-amino-ethanol and 2-acetyl-pyridine with CuBr in ethanol results in the isolation of the new polymeric complex poly[hexa-μ-bromido-bis-{2-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene-amino]-ethano-lato}tetra-copper(II)], [CuBr(CHNO)] or [CuBr ]. The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the polymeric [CuBr ] complex is composed by four copper (II) cations, two monodeprotonated mol-ecules of the ligand, and six bromide anions, which act as bridges. The ligand mol-ecules act in a tridentate fashion through their azomethine nitro-gen atoms, their pyridine nitro-gen atoms, and their alcoholate O atoms.

We report the synthesis and structures of two transition-metal complexes involving 2-(2-hy-droxy-phen-yl)benzimidazole (2hpbi - a ligand of inter-est for its photoluminescent applications), with cobalt, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-[ethanol(thio-cyanato)-cobalt(II)], [Co(CHNO)(NCS)(CHO)], (), and manganese, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-{[2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato](thio-cyanato)-mang-an-ese(III)} dihydrate, [Mn(CHNO)(NCS)]·2HO, (). These structures are two recent examples of a fruitful collaboration between researchers at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination Organique/Organic Coordination Chemistry Laboratory (LCCO), University of Dakar, Senegal and the National Crystallography Service (NCS), School of Chemistry, University Southampton, UK. This productive partnership was forged through meeting at Pan-African Conferences on Crystallography and quickly grew as the plans for the AfCA (African Crystallographic Association) developed.

Representing approximately 22% of cervical spine injuries, upper cervical spine injuries are becoming more frequent with the increase in road traffic accidents. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the results of our surgical series and to compare them with the literature.  In this monocentric retrospective study of over three years (June 2019-May 2022), all the patients with traumatic injuries of the upper cervical spine with a surgical treatment and a minimum of 12 months follow-up were included.

Introduction: Endometriosis is a gynecological pathology defined by the presence and abnormal development of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Our objective was to draw up an epidemiological profile and to describe the anatomical clinical forms of endometriosis in Dakar.

Patients And Methods: This is a retrospective study of all cases of external and internal endometriosis diagnosed in an anatomy and pathology laboratory in Dakar over a period of twenty (20) years.

Importance: Tiered physician network (TPN) health plans sort physicians into tiers based on their cost and quality, and patients pay lower copays for visits with physicians in the lower-cost and better-quality tiers. When the plans are first introduced, they lead patients to seek care from higher-value physicians.

Objectives: To examine whether TPNs are associated with patient choice of physician when the plans have been in place for 8 to 12 years and whether there are inequities in patient out-of-pocket costs associated with inequities in access to physicians in lower-copay tiers.

Two new heterocyclic 1,2,3-triazenes were synthesized by diazo-tation of 3-amino-pyridine following respectively by coupling with morpholine or 1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-quinoline. 4-[(Pyridin-3-yl)diazen-yl]morpholine (), CHNO, has monoclinic 2/ symmetry at 100 K, while 1-[(pyridin-3-yl)diazen-yl]-1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-quinoline (), CHN, has monoclinic 2/ symmetry at 100 K. These 1,2,3-triazene derivatives were synthesized by the organic medium method by coupling reactions of 3-amino-pyridine with morpholine and 1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-quinoline, respectively, and characterized by H NMR, C NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Lipid encapsulated messenger RNA (LNP mRNA) has garnered a significant amount of interest from the pharmaceutical industry and general public alike. This attention has been catalyzed by the clinical success of LNP mRNA for SARS-CoV-2 vaccination as well as future promises that might be fulfilled by the biotechnology pipeline, such as the in vivo delivery of a CRISPR/Cas9 complex that can edit patient cells to reduce levels of low-density lipoprotein. LNP mRNAs are comprised of various chemically diverse molecules brought together in a sophisticated intermolecular complex.

O-GlcNAcylation is a prominent modification of nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins in animals and plants and is mediated by a single O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT). Spindly (Spy), a paralog of OGT first discovered in higher plants, has an ortholog in the apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii, and both enzymes are now recognized as O-fucosyltransferases (OFTs). Here we investigate the evolution of spy-like genes and experimentally confirm OFT activity in the social amoeba Dictyostelium-a protist that is more related to fungi and metazoa.

Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a neoplasm prone to leukemic transformation, for which limited treatment is available. Among individuals diagnosed with PMF, the most prevalent mutation is the JAK2V617F somatic point mutation that activates the Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) enzyme. Our earlier reports on hyperactivity of β1 integrin and enhanced adhesion activity of the α2β1 complex in JAK2V617F megakaryocytes (MKs) led us to examine the new hypothesis that this mutation leads to posttranslational modification via changes in glycosylation.
