Purpose:  The study assessed the caries risk in infants and children with and without early childhood caries (ECC) using American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Caries Risk Assessment Tool (AAPD CRAT) and identified the association between caries risk and mode of birth delivery.

Methods:  This cross-sectional study included 96 infants and children with all maxillary and mandibular primary anterior teeth and at least two primary molars erupted clinically in the oral cavity. The details on the mode of birth delivery were noted in a preformed template along with the demographic details, followed by caries risk assessment (CRA) to assess the caries risk of an individual.

Objective: Enamelin is the largest enamel matrix protein encoded by the ENAM gene. The primary purpose of this study was to identify genetic variants in ENAM exon 10 that can alter susceptibility to early childhood caries (ECC).

Methods: This case-control study included 248 children aged 3-6 years, with 124 children diagnosed with ECC in the case group and 124 children without caries in the control group.

Purpose: Genetic variants of AMELX gene can affect the protein content, organization of enamel prisms, microstructure and microhardness of the enamel, thus altering the caries susceptibility. The present study aims to assess the association between polymorphisms rs17878486, rs5934997, and rs5933871 of AMELX gene and Early Childhood Caries (ECC).

Materials And Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 200 participants, aged 3-6 years, with 100 controls and 100 children with ECC.

Article Synopsis
  • Recombinant biopharmaceuticals, such as antibodies and hormones, are produced using plant molecular pharming, which offers benefits like scalability and reduced contamination risks compared to traditional methods.
  • Despite its advantages, plant systems face challenges like non-human post-translational modifications and protein instability that hinder efficient protein expression.
  • Artificial intelligence and synthetic biology tools are being integrated to improve protein production in plants by optimizing stability and effectiveness, helping meet the growing demand for therapeutics.

Three new aza-dipyrrinato ruthenium sensitizers AZA-BPY, AZA-BPY-NCS, and AZA-TER, have been designed and successfully synthesized. We have studied the effect of aza-dipyrrinato ligands on the photo-physical and electrochemical properties. The aza-dipyrrinato ancillary ligand exhibited enhancement in the light-harvesting capability compared to the traditional dipyrrinato ligand by coordinating ruthenium metal.

Background: Self-care for diabetes is very important in preventing complications of diabetes and also improving quality of life. This study aims to find the various self-care practices of type 2 diabetes patients who are being treated at a rural health center of a medical college and the factors influencing self-care.

Materials And Methods: This is a hospital-based cross-sectional study.

Background: "Active case finding among key populations" is one of the four main thrust areas under the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis (NSP) 2017-25.

Objective: This study aims to actively screen for TB symptoms and disease among migrant brick kiln workers and their care seeking behaviour for the symptoms through a private-public partnership effort.

Methods: This was a cross sectional study conducted among all migrant brick kiln workers working in the brick kilns in the field practice area of the Rural Health Centre of a medical college hospital.

One of the greatest threats to achieving tight glycemic control is hypoglycemia, which can lead to decreased drug compliance, cardiovascular events, and even mortality. There is lack of literature on this complication in the Indian setting. This study will aid the primary care physician to achieve better glycemic control of the diabetic patients and provide patient education to prevent hypoglycemia.

This retrospective study was done to compare the nutrition status as assessed by the Revised IAP 2015 and CDC 2000 growth charts in 4011 school children from the lower socioeconomic class, 5 to 16 y of age in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The anthropometric measurements taken as per standard guidelines were retrieved from the school health records. The data were converted to Z scores and agreement between the two charts was assessed by kappa coefficient using SPSS version 16.

Energy transfer has been employed in third-generation solar cells for the conversion of light into electrical energy. Long-range nonradiative energy transfer from semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) to fluorophores has been demonstrated by using CdS QDs and thiophene-BODIPY (boron dipyrromethene, abbreviated as TG2). TG2 shows a broad photoluminescence (PL) spectrum, which varies with concentration.

We report the first high affinity neutral Bodipy fluorophores for selective imaging of mitochondria with notable sensitivity (∼100 nM) and insignificant cytotoxicity even at very high concentration (∼100 μM), when tested against HeLa cells. Further, these fluorophores are chemically robust and require no special conditions for storage.

We report a series of four efficient photosensitizers (PSs) based on a Bodipy core for photodynamic therapy (PDT). In the absence of hydrophilic functional groups, these PSs have been encapsulated in liposomes and examined for photocytotoxicity against human ovarian carcinoma cell line (SK-OV-3). The IC values obtained are as low as 0.

In this investigation, the application of citric acid was explored for the removal of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) from waste activated sludge (WAS), followed by ultrasonic pretreatment, which enhanced the subsequent anaerobic biodegradability. EPS was removed with 0.05g/g SS of citric acid.

A simple column chromatographic method for determination of ethambutol (EMB) in pharmaceutical preparations containing EMB in combination with other anti-TB drugs is presented. The method involved extraction of EMB into an organic solvent, followed by basification and column chromatographic separation on Amberlite CG 50 (100-200 mesh) and elution with suitable eluants and estimation at a wavelength of 270 nm. The assay was linear from 25 to 400 microg/ml.

Clinical trials were undertaken with an injectable low dose progestational contraceptive, norethisterone enanthate 20 mg monthly (Net-en - 20). Data from the study indicate that Net-en - 20 is an effective contraceptive with lower incidence of menstrual cycle disturbances than the currently used injectable progestogens. There was a prompt return of fertility after the withdrawal of the drug.
