Search for dark matter and large extra dimensions in pp collisions yielding a photon and missing transverse energy.

Results are presented from a search for new physics in the final state containing a photon (γ) and missing transverse energy (E[combininb /](T)). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1) collected in pp collisions at √[s]=7 TeV by the CMS experiment.

Observation of a new Ξb baryon.

The observation of a new b baryon via its strong decay into Ξ(b)(-) π(+) (plus charge conjugates) is reported. The measurement uses a data sample of pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb(-1).

Development of micro-injection as an innovative autologous fat graft technique: The use of adipose tissue as dermal filler.

Background: Autologous fat graft, by virtue of its volumetric qualities and its action on skin trophicity, can be considered as a gold standard implant. Current techniques do not allow very superficial or subdermal injections of adipose tissue. The authors report technical modifications that enable fat transfer through a 25-gauge cannula.

Ethical, anatomical and physiological issues in developing vestibular implants for human use.

Effort towards the development of a vestibular implant for human use are being made. This paper will summarize the first important steps conducted in Geneva towards this ambitious goal. Basically, we have faced three major issues.

Illusory movements prevent cortical disruption caused by immobilization.

Enforced limb disuse strongly disrupts the cortical networks that are involved in sensorimotor activities. This disruption causes a cortical reorganization that may be functionally maladaptive. In this study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate whether it is possible to prevent this reorganization by compensating for the lack of actual kinesthetic perception with illusory movements induced by "neuromimetic" proprio-tactile feedback that is artificially delivered during immobilization.

Search for signatures of extra dimensions in the diphoton mass spectrum at the large hadron collider.

A search for signatures of extra spatial dimensions in the diphoton invariant-mass spectrum has been performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. No excess of events above the standard model expectation is observed using a data sample collected in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb(-1).

Transapical aortic valve implantation in Rouen: four years' experience with the Edwards transcatheter prosthesis.

Background: The first French transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was performed in July 2007 in our department.

Ruminant farming is important to global food security, but excessive proteolysis in the rumen causes inefficient use of nitrogenous plant constituents and environmental pollution. While both plant and microbial proteases contribute to ruminal proteolysis, little is known about post-ingestion regulation of plant proteases except that activity in the first few hours after ingestion of fresh forage can result in significant degradation of foliar protein. As the signal salicylic acid (SA) influences cell death during both biotic and abiotic stresses, Arabidopsis wild-type and mutants were used to test the effect of SA on proteolysis induced by rumen conditions (39 °C and anaerobic in a neutral pH).

[Preiser's disease: a five-case series].

Preiser's disease, or avascular necrosis of the scaphoid occurs without fracture or non-union. Between 1998 and 2009, the authors report on 5 patients who complained of mild pain on the radial aspect of the wrist, associated with stiffness and/or loss of strength. Our management consisted in different options: one bilateral intraarticular injection of hyaluronic acid, three vascularised radial bone graft and one resection of the first carpal row.

[Botulinum toxin type A contribution in the treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon due to systemic sclerosis].

Aims: Raynaud's phenomenon is a vasospastic disorder of the extremities that can lead, in the hands, to pain, disability, ischemic ulcers and digital chronic ischemia. Medical and surgical current treatments are not fully effective while causing side effects. Recent studies have emphasized the value of botulinum toxin type A (BTX A) in the management of primary Raynaud's phenomenon.

Search for three-jet resonances in pp collisions at square root(s)=7 TeV.

A search for three-jet hadronic resonance production in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35  pb(-1). Events with high jet multiplicity and a large scalar sum of jet transverse momenta are analyzed using a signature-based approach. The number of expected standard model background events is found to be in good agreement with the observed events.

Effect of partial wrist denervation on wrist kinesthesia: wrist denervation does not impair proprioception.

Purpose: To evaluate the potential effect of partial wrist denervation on wrist kinesthesia, we hypothesized that anesthetizing the anterior interosseous nerve and the posterior interosseous nerve does not impair the kinesthesia.

Methods: We performed a double-blinded, prospective, randomized study on 80 healthy volunteers (20-54 y old) to compare the ability to detect active and passive wrist movement in 2 conditions. The test group received an anesthetic block of the anterior and posterior interosseous nerves, and the control group subjects received an injection of saline.

Measurement of the t-channel single top quark production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV.

Electroweak production of the top quark is measured for the first time in pp collisions at √=7  TeV, using a data set collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36  pb⁻¹. Background: Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) permits leukocyte-endothelial adhesion and transmigration during inflammation. Membrane-bound ICAM-1 knockout mice have been used to understand this molecule's role in wound-healing, but expressed spliced isoforms of ICAM-1 that may have impacted results. We aimed to characterize wound-healing in an ICAM-1 null model devoid of all ICAM-1 isoforms.

Measurement of the polarization of W bosons with large transverse momenta in W + jets events at the LHC.

A first measurement of the polarization of W bosons with large transverse momenta in pp collisions is presented. The measurement is based on 36 pb⁻¹ of data recorded at √s = 7 TeV by the CMS detector at the LHC. The left-handed, right-handed, and longitudinal polarization fractions (f(L), f(R), and f₀, respectively) of W bosons with transverse momenta larger than 50 GeV are determined by using decays to both electrons and muons.
