Hippotherapy in the management of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is an inherited condition marked by joint hypermobility, instability, chronic pain and fatigue, significantly impacting quality of life and autonomy. Management focuses solely on symptom alleviation. After experiencing a rapid decline in functional abilities, a patient in late adolescence with hypermobile EDS underwent hippotherapy rehabilitation (30 hours).

Neuromuscular Choristoma of the Brachial Plexus Presenting as a Supraclavicular Mass in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Case: This case demonstrates a 2-year-old boy with a rare benign supraclavicular mass diagnosed as neuromuscular choristoma through open biopsy. Postoperatively, he underwent semiannual surveillance with ultrasound without development of neurological complaints, limb deformity, or recurrence at 2-year follow-up.

Conclusion: Neuromuscular choristoma involving the brachial plexus is a rare tumor that should be in the differential diagnosis of pediatric peripheral nerve-based tumors.

The pink river dolphin, or bufeo, is one of the dolphins which lives in the rivers of the Orinoco and Amazon basins in South America. The Bolivian bufeo population is considered a differentiated species () from the Amazon and Orinoco species (). Until now, no study has completed an extensive population genetics analysis of the bufeo in Bolivian rivers.

Introduction: Mental healthcare systems are challenged by how they hear and respond to what marginalised communities experience as drivers of mental distress. In Colombia, this challenge intersects with wider challenges facing post-conflict reconstruction. Our pilot study will explore the feasibility and acceptability of a participatory approach to developing community-led participatory interventions for community mental health systems strengthening and mental health improvement, in two sites in Caquetá, Colombia.

Neurorehabilitation must take into account the many aspects of the individual through a comprehensive analysis of actual and potential cognitive, behavioral, emotional and physical skills, while increasing awareness and understanding of the new self of the person being dealt with.

Introduction: Pleuroperitoneal hernia is the most frequent diaphragmatic congenital hernia, appearing in 1 in 3,000 births. This diaphragmatic defect is located on the left side in 80% to 90% of cases. Pleuroperitoneal hernia is usually diagnosed in the first 8 weeks of life due to respiratory compromise caused by the herniation of abdominal organs into the thoracic cavity; therefore, adult presentation is a rare condition.

Tetrahydropyridines via FeCl-Catalyzed Carbonyl-Olefin Metathesis.

Herein we describe the application of Lewis-acid-catalyzed carbonyl-olefin metathesis toward the synthesis of substituted tetrahydropyridines from commercially available amino acids as chiral pool reagents. This strategy relies on FeCl as an inexpensive and environmentally benign catalyst and enables access to a variety of substituted tetrahydropyridines under mild reaction conditions. The reaction proceeds with complete stereoretention and is viable for a variety of natural and unnatural amino acids to provide the corresponding tetrahydropyridines in up to 99% yield.

Multiple Myeloma Mimicking a Small Vessel Vasculitis Presentation.

Multiple myeloma can have different clinical manifestations, and not all patients present with classic CRAB component. We describe a 46-year-old woman admitted to our hospital with a complaint of a bluish-to-black discoloration of the second toe that was rapidly progressive and acute kidney injury. We documented a Kappa light chain monoclonal gammopathy, increased presence of plasmacytes in bone marrow aspiration, and multiple lytic bone lesions, which led to a diagnosis of multiple myeloma.

Validation and clinical application of a nested PCR for paracoccidioidomycosis diagnosis in clinical samples from Colombian patients.

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic and endemic mycosis, restricted to tropical and subtropical areas of Latin America. The infection is caused by the thermal dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and Paracoccidioides lutzii. The diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis is usually performed by microscopic examination, culture and immunodiagnostic tests to respiratory specimens, body fluids and/or biopsies; however these methods require laboratory personnel with experience and several days to produce a result.
