Septo-optic dysplasia (SOD) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by optic nerve hypoplasia, brain midline structure anomalies, and hypothalamic-pituitary axis hypoplasia. This case report aims to highlight the association between SOD and neurodevelopmental disorders, focusing on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in addition to the well-established link with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A six-year-old male diagnosed with SOD presented with behavioral concerns, including attention and impulse control issues.

In addition to the clinical burden of disease, this syndrome results in a disproportionately high medicolegal strain due to missed or delayed diagnoses. Despite being an emergency diagnosis, often necessitating urgent surgical decompression to treat, we believe there is a lack of clarity for clinicians in the current literature, with no published Irish guideline concerning screening or detection.

The objective of this study is to evaluate barriers to ABA treatment in ASD. Methods A voluntary 51-question survey, including demographics, socioeconomic status, parental assertiveness/self-advocacy, and parent perceptions, was provided to caregivers of children aged one to eight years old diagnosed with ASD.

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and resonant ultrasound spectroscopy on [Mn(3,5-diCl-sal(323))]BPh reveal three distinct symmetry-breaking phase transitions in the polar space group series → → 1 → 1 The transition mechanisms involve coupling between structural and spin state order parameters, and the three transitions are Landau tricritical, first order, and first order, respectively. The two first-order phase transitions also show changes in magnetic properties and spin state ordering in the Jahn-Teller-active Mn complex.

He experienced gradual onset of right-sided scapular pain and shortness of breath on exertion that progressively worsened over the course of 1 month. He had a mild nonproductive cough and intermittent subjective fevers and reported weight loss of approximately 2 kg over 1 month.

Methods: Newborns undergoing repair of esophageal atresia at a single specialist centre between 1999 and 2017 were categorised into three groups based on BW; Group A < 1.5 kg, Group B <2.
Polytrauma clinical triad (PCT) is the comorbid occurrence of traumatic brain injury (TBI), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and pain after trauma. No clinical practice guidelines for postacute care of patients with PCT currently exist; instead, clinical practice guidelines have been published for the three conditions (TBI, PTSD, and pain) as distinct clinical entities. Using multiple, individual practice guidelines for a patient with PCT may lead to unintended prescription of multiple and potentially adversely interacting medications (ie, polypharmacy).

Background: Radial access for cardiac catheterization has become increasingly adopted, owing much of its popularity to decreased bleeding complications compared with the femoral approach. Hemostatic compression devices (HCDs) for radial catheterization play a key role in this advantage, but the optimal duration of compression is unknown. A shorter duration of compression is encouraged by guidelines, but removing an HCD too quickly could result in serious bleeding.

There is an urgent need for validation of new drug targets and the development of small molecules with novel mechanisms of action. We therefore sought to inhibit bacterial DNA repair mediated by the AddAB/RecBCD protein complexes as a means to sensitize bacteria to DNA damage caused by the host immune system or quinolone antibiotics.

Background: Referrals to other medical services are central to healthcare, including family planning service providers; however, little information exists on the nature of referral practices among health centers that offer family planning.
Materials And Methods: We used a nationally representative survey of administrators from 1,615 publicly funded health centers that offered family planning in 2013-14 to describe the use of six referral practices. We focused on associations between various health center characteristics and frequent use of three active referral practices.

In April 2014, CDC published "Providing Quality Family Planning Services: Recommendations of CDC and the U.S. Office of Population Affairs" (QFP), which describes the scope of services that should be offered in a family planning visit and how to provide those services (e.

We describe health center-related factors associated with LARC availability, including staff training in LARC insertion/removal and approaches to offering LARC, whether onsite or through referral.
Study Design: We analyzed nationally representative survey data collected during 2013-2014 from administrators of publicly funded U.
Background: The federal Title X Family Planning Program supports the delivery of family planning services and related preventive care to 4 million individuals annually in the United States. The implementation of the 2010 Affordable Care Act's (ACA's) Medicaid expansion and provisions expanding access to health insurance, which took effect in January 2014, resulted in higher rates of health insurance coverage in the U.S.

However, the association between temperature and mental health-related outcomes, including violence and self-harm, remains relatively unexamined. For the period 2005-2013, we obtained daily counts of mental health-related emergency room visits involving injuries with an external cause for 16 California climate zones from the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development and combined them with data on mean apparent temperature, a combination of temperature and humidity.

However, contraceptive services may not consistently provide access to the full method mix and to patient-centered care. Improving the quality of contraceptive care is a critical strategy to improve contraceptive use, health outcomes, and the patient experience of care.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The objective was to describe a Performance Measure Learning Collaborative (PMLC) designed to help Title X family planning grantees use new clinical performance measures for contraceptive care.
Study Design: Twelve Title X grantee-service site teams participated in an 8-month PMLC from November 2015 to June 2016; baseline was assessed in October 2015. Each team documented their selected best practices and strategies to improve performance, and calculated the contraceptive care performance measures at baseline and for each of the subsequent 8 months.
Objectives: The National Quality Forum (NQF) recently endorsed the first clinical performance measures for contraceptive care. We present data demonstrating that the measures meet the NQF's criterion "importance to measure and report."
Study Design: We summarized national contraceptive care initiatives, epidemiologic data documenting the reproductive health burden and the scientific literature examining the association between contraceptive use and unintended pregnancy.
Objectives: To assess feasibility of calculating clinical performance measures for contraceptive care for National Quality Forum submission: the percentage of women aged 15-44 years provided the following: (1) a most or moderately effective contraceptive method (MME) and (2) a long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) method.
Methods: We used 2013 Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Title X and Iowa Medicaid data. We stratified Title X data by age and Medicaid data by age and benefit type (family planning waiver (FPW) vs.
