Ultrathin ALD Coatings of Zr and V Oxides on Anodic TiO Nanotube Layers: Comparison of the Osteoblast Cell Growth.

The current study investigates and compares the biological effects of ultrathin conformal coatings of zirconium dioxide (ZrO) and vanadium pentoxide (VO) on osteoblastic MG-63 cells grown on TiO nanotube layers (TNTs). Coatings were achieved by the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. TNTs with average tube diameters of 15, 30, and 100 nm were fabricated on Ti substrates (via electrochemical anodization) and were used as primary substrates for the study.

Involvement of an IgE/Mast cell/B cell amplification loop in abdominal aortic aneurysm progression.

Aims: IgE type immunoglobulins and their specific effector cells, mast cells (MCs), are associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) progression. In parallel, immunoglobulin-producing B cells, organised in tertiary lymphoid organs (TLOs) within the aortic wall, have also been linked to aneurysmal progression. We aimed at investigating the potential role and mechanism linking local MCs, TLO B cells, and IgE production in aneurysmal progression.

Immune sensing of food allergens promotes avoidance behaviour.

In addition to its canonical function of protection from pathogens, the immune system can also alter behaviour. The scope and mechanisms of behavioural modifications by the immune system are not yet well understood. Here, using mouse models of food allergy, we show that allergic sensitization drives antigen-specific avoidance behaviour.

Antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapies in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: A large French cohort study (RETROPLACOTEL).

Background: It is unclear whether hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) patients can tolerate antithrombotic therapies (AT) including antiplatelet (AP) and/or anticoagulant (AC) agents.

Objectives: Primary endpoint was tolerance to AT in HHT. Secondary endpoints were to identify factors associated with major bleeding events (MBE) and premature discontinuation of AT.

Identification of infarct core and ischemic penumbra using computed tomography perfusion and deep learning.

Purpose: The size and location of infarct and penumbra are key to decision-making for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) management. CT perfusion (CTP) software estimate infarct and penumbra volume using contralateral hemisphere relative thresholding. This approach is not robust and widely contested by the scientific community.

Inter and intra-observer agreement of arterial wall contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in giant cell arteritis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze inter- and intra-observer agreement for contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) for monitoring disease activity in Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) in the wall of axillary arteries, and common carotid arteries.

Methods: Giant cell arteritis patients have CEUS of axillary arteries and common carotid. These images were rated by seven vascular medicine physicians from four hospitals who were experienced in duplex ultrasonography of GCA patients.

Mast Cell Interaction with Foxp3 Regulatory T Cells Occur in the Dermis after Initiation of IgE-Mediated Cutaneous Anaphylaxis.

Mast cells (MCs) are well-known for their role in IgE-mediated cutaneous anaphylactic responses, but their regulatory functions in the skin are still under intense scrutiny. Using a Red MC and Basophil reporter (RMB) mouse allowing red fluorescent detection and diphtheria toxin mediated depletion of MCs, we investigated the interaction of MCs, Foxp3 regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs) and Langerhans cells (LCs) during passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) responses. Using intravital imaging we show that MCs are sessile at homeostasis and during PCA.

Use of hand hydraulic dynamometers as an overall evaluation of the upper-limb weakness in patients with thoracic outlet syndrome.

Patients with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome report pain and upper-limb weakness. They complain about weakness occurring on the entire upper-limb, especially at the hand and the shoulder levels. Hydraulic dynamometers can reliably assess the strength of the hand, and isokinetic shoulder testing can provide accurate and reliable evaluations of the rotators strength.

Persistent SARS-CoV-2 Alpha Variant Infection in Immunosuppressed Patient, France, February 2022.

We describe persistent circulation of SARS-CoV-2 Alpha variant in an immunosuppressed patient in France during February 2022. The virus had a new pattern of mutation accumulation. The ongoing circulation of previous variants of concern could lead to reemergence of variants with the potential to propagate future waves of infection.

Cell penetrating peptide decorated magnetic porous silicon nanorods for glioblastoma therapy and imaging.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant primary brain tumor of the central nervous system. Despite advances in therapy, it remains largely untreatable, in part due to the low permeability of chemotherapeutic drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) which significantly compromises their effectiveness. To circumvent the lack of drug efficiency, we designed multifunctional nanoparticles based on porous silicon.

Pharmaco-mechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis versus recanalization and stenting for post thrombotic syndrome after lower limb deep vein thrombosis: a comparative study.

Background: Endovenous interventional procedures can be used in addition to therapeutic anticoagulation to treat deep vein thrombosis in selected patients with proximal vein involvement (vena cava, iliac and/or common femoral). The aim of this study was to compare venous patency and the post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) in patients treated with pharmaco-mechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PMT) versus recanalization-stenting for PTS after a proximal lower limb deep vein thrombosis.

Methods: Between January 2014 and December 2020, this retrospective and monocentric study included patients with very symptomatic acute iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis treated with PMT within 21 days after diagnosis (PMT group) and patients with PTS caused by chronic venous obstruction treated with recanalization and stenting (CRS group).

Case-Control Study on Exercise-Induced Vasculitis in Hikers.

The aim of this study was to identify clinical factors associated with exercise-induced vasculitis (EIV). This study included EIV cases and controls matched for age. Cases included were all members of a hiking club and participated in extended hiking trips.

Percutaneous Axillary Artery Access for Peripheral and Complex Endovascular Interventions: Clinical Outcomes and Cost Benefits.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the safety, efficacy, and applicability of percutaneous axillary artery (pAxA) access in patients requiring upper extremity large sheath access during complex aortic, cardiac, and peripheral endovascular procedures. We also take this opportunity to address the potential cost-benefits offered by pAxA access compared to open upper extremity access.

Our purpose was to evaluate the influence of social status and home distance to hospital on the use of oral CT in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Digital ischaemia aetiologies and mid-term follow-up: A cohort study of 323 patients.

Upper extremity digital ischaemia (UEDI) is a rare heterogeneous condition whose frequency is 40 times less than that of toe ischaemia. Using a large cohort, the aim of this study was to evaluate aetiologies, prognosis and midterm clinical outcomes of UEDI.All patients with UEDI with or without cutaneous necrosis in a university hospital setting between January 2000 to December 2016 were included.

Predictive factors of venous recanalization in upper-extremity vein thrombosis.

Background: Upper extremity venous thrombosis (UEVT) represents about 10% of venous thrombo-embolic disease. This is mainly explained by the increasing use of central venous line, for oncologic or nutritional care. The factors associated with venous recanalization are not known.

Prevalence of post-thrombotic syndrome in a cohort of upper extremity vein thrombosis.

Objective: Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is one of the main complications that occurs after venous thrombosis. There are few data on the proportion of patients that will develop upper extremity PTS (UE-PTS) after upper extremity venous thrombosis (UEVT). The main objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of PTS in a UEVT cohort and to identify predictive factors of UE-PTS.

Effect of cannabis consumption on characteristics and evolution of thromboangitis obliterans.

Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) is a distal non atherosclerotic thrombotic vasculitis affecting tobacco smokers. The role of cannabis co-exposure remains controversial. The study aims to assess how cannabis consumption influences clinical presentation and outcome of TAO in tobacco smokers.

Subclavian Vessel Compression Assessed by Duplex Scanning in Patients with Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and No Vascular Signs.

Neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome (NTOS) is the most frequent form of TOS. It may affect both sides, but specific complementary exams are lacking. We aimed to evaluate duplex scanning results in a group of patients with unilateral or bilateral NTOS and no clinical vascular signs, referred for rehabilitation.

IL-33-ST2 axis regulates myeloid cell differentiation and activation enabling effective club cell regeneration.

Evidence points to an indispensable function of macrophages in tissue regeneration, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Here we demonstrate a protective function for the IL-33-ST2 axis in bronchial epithelial repair, and implicate ST2 in myeloid cell differentiation. ST2 deficiency in mice leads to reduced lung myeloid cell infiltration, abnormal alternatively activated macrophage (AAM) function, and impaired epithelial repair post naphthalene-induced injury.
