Properly managing healthcare data is a complex endeavor that must balance the requirements and interests of many stakeholders. In this paper, we present the findings from a panel discussion with healthcare professionals and academics, who elaborate on the current situation in healthcare data management as well as the future role that blockchain could play in this sector. Based on the findings of this panel, we structure the research field of healthcare data management and provide numerous avenues for future research.

The 1 km treadmill walk test (1-KTWT) is a submaximal continuous exercise test to predict cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with cardiovascular disease. We examined physiological, metabolic and subjective responses in patients with cardiovascular disease with self-selected, unchanging walking speed for two 1-KTWTs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtopic dermatitis (AD), the most common inflammatory skin disorder, is a multifactorial disease characterized by a genetic predisposition, epidermal barrier disruption, a strong T helper (Th) type 2 immune reaction to environmental antigens and an altered cutaneous microbiome. Microbial dysbiosis characterized by the prevalence of () has been shown to exacerbate AD. In recent years, in vitro models of AD have been developed, but none of them reproduce all of the pathophysiological features.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMany studies performed in the last decade have focused on the cutaneous microbiota. It has been shown that this microbiota plays a key role in skin homeostasis. Considered as "a second barrier" to the environment, it is very important to know how it reacts to exogenous aggressions.

The purpose of this study was to examine the consequences of small format, caffeinated energy shots on glucose metabolism and gastrointestinal hormone secretion in adolescents. Twenty participants aged 13-19 years participated in a double-blind, randomized cross-over study consisting of two trials separated by 1-4 weeks.

Healthcare practitioner and patient feedback, along with economic impact, were assessed. The costs associated with catheter replacement during the adhesive device group study period were calculated using an average cost per insertion, based on material costs required for the procedure.

Instructions for older adults regarding the intensity of walking may not elicit an intensity to infer health gains. We recorded the metabolic equivalents (METs) during a 1-mile walk using constant and predicted values of resting MET in older adults to establish walking guidelines for health promotion and participation. In a cross-sectional design study, participants (15 men, 10 women) walked 1-mile overground, in a wooden floored gymnasium, wearing the Cosmed K4b for measurement of energy expenditure.

We examined tissue oxygen saturation, muscle activity, cardiovascular responses and femoral artery diameter during a submaximal sustained isometric contraction. In a randomised, double-blind, crossover design, healthy men ( = 13, age: 25 ± 4 years, BMI: 25 ± 3 kg·m, mean ± SD) ingested New Zealand blackcurrant (NZBC) extract (600 mg∙day CurraNZ™) or placebo (PL) for 7-days separated by 14-days washout.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: It has been previously shown that New Zealand blackcurrant (NZBC) extract increased fat oxidation during short duration cycling. The present study examined the effect of different doses of NZBC extract on substrate oxidation and physiological responses during prolonged cycling.
Methods: Using a randomized counterbalanced Latin-square design, 15 endurance-trained male cyclists (age: 38 ± 12 years, height: 187 ± 5 cm, body mass: 76 ± 10 kg, [Formula: see text]: 56 ± 8 mL kg min, and mean ± SD) completed four separate 120-min cycling bouts at 65% [Formula: see text] after ingesting no dose, or one of three doses (300, 600, or 900 mg day) of NZBC extract (CurraNZ™) for 7 days.
Purpose: Blackcurrant contains anthocyanins that could alter cardiovascular function and reduce cardiovascular disease risk. We examined dose responses of New Zealand blackcurrant (NZBC) extract on cardiovascular function during supine rest.
Methods: Fifteen endurance-trained male cyclists (age: 38 ± 12 years, height: 178 ± 5 cm, body mass: 76 ± 10 kg, [Formula: see text]: 56 ± 8 mL kg min, mean ± SD) were randomly assigned using a counterbalanced Latin square design to complete four conditions, a control of no NZBC, or one of three doses (300, 600 or 900 mg day) of NZBC extract (CurraNZ™) for 7-days with a 14-day washout.
Ni is recognized as an element that is toxic to humans, acting as an allergen and a carcinogenic agent, and it is also toxic to plants. The toxicity of Ni has been understudied in microorganisms. The data presented here were obtained by submitting the model bacterium Escherichia coli K-12 to nickel stress.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe biology of nickel has been widely studied in mammals because of its carcinogenic properties, whereas few studies have been performed in microorganisms. In the present work, changes accompanying stress caused by nickel were evaluated at the cellular level using RNA-Seq in Escherichia coli K-12. Interestingly, a very large number of genes were found to be deregulated by Ni stress.

Blackcurrant contains anthocyanins, known to influence vasorelaxation and peripheral blood flow. We examined the effects of 7 days intake of Sujon New Zealand blackcurrant powder (6g/day) on the lactate curve, maximum oxygen uptake, and cardiovascular responses at rest and during cycling. Thirteen trained triathletes with >3 yrs experience (8 men, age: 38 ± 8 yrs, body mass: 71 ± 9 kg, BF%: 19 ± 5%, mean ± SD) performed two incremental cycling protocols with recording of physiological and cardiovascular responses (Portapres Model 2).

Their high reactivity with biomolecules has forced living cells to evolve specific pathways for their in vivo handling. For instance the excess of metal can be expelled by dedicated efflux systems.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAging is a multi-factorial process that ultimately induces a decline in our physiological functioning, causing a decreased health-span, quality of life and independence for older adults. Exercise participation is seen as a way to reduce the impact of aging through maintenance of physiological parameters. Eccentric exercise is a model that can be employed with older adults, due to the muscle's ability to combine high muscle force production with a low energy cost.

However, surprisingly little empirical research exists on the role of religion or religious context in criminal justice, and almost no research on the role of religious context on actual sentencing practices. We conceptualize the potential relationships between religious context and sentencing severity by drawing from the focal concerns and court community perspectives in the sentencing literature and theory developed by Rodney Stark.
