Holopodidae is one of the three families in the order Cyrtocrinida that have extant representatives. Two genera have been described, Holopus and Cyathidium, both with extant species and fossil representatives dating back to the Cenomanian (Late Cretaceous). Eocene (Lutetian) holopodid material from the Chiampo Valley (north-eastern Italy) has recently been attributed to H.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the binding of a fluorescent analog of flortaucipir (T726) to different tau proteins in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD).
  • T726 showed significant co-localization with PHF tau in AD but had limited interaction with 3R and 4R tau lesions in FTLD.
  • Findings suggest that while T726 binds to some FTLD tau lesions, it doesn't bind to all, indicating the need for further research to understand the varying binding patterns.

Dental decay is a prevalent bacterial disease affecting a significant percentage of children globally. In paediatric dentistry, various materials are available for restoring deciduous teeth, addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns. However, paediatric dentists encounter challenges related to patient compliance, limited working time, and material handling.

Progressive apraxia of speech (PAOS) is a 4R tauopathy characterized by difficulties with motor speech planning. Neurodegeneration in PAOS targets the premotor cortex, particularly the supplementary motor area (SMA), with degeneration of white matter (WM) tracts connecting premotor and motor cortices and Broca's area observed on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). We aimed to assess flortaucipir uptake across speech-language-related WM tracts identified using DTI tractography in PAOS.

Background: TAR DNA binding protein 43 (TDP-43) has been shown to be associated with whole hippocampal atrophy in primary age-related tauopathy (PART). It is currently unknown which subregions of the hippocampus are contributing to TDP-43 associated whole hippocampal atrophy in PART.

Objective: To identify which specific hippocampal subfield regions are contributing to TDP-43-associated whole hippocampal atrophy in PART.

Background And Purpose: Primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) is a neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects the central motor system. In rare cases, clinical features of PLS may overlap with those of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). We investigate neuroimaging features that can help distinguish PLS with overlapping features of PSP (PLS-PSP) from PSP.

This article analyzes and compares two general techniques of rare event simulation for generating paths of Markov processes over fixed time horizons: exponential tilting and stochastic bridge. These two methods allow us to accurately compute the probability that a Markov process ends within a rare region which is unlikely to be attained. Exponential tilting is a general technique for obtaining an alternative or tilted sampling probability measure, under which the Markov process becomes likely to hit the rare region at terminal time.

Aim: The aim of this article is to compare the performance of ZeroExpander® realised using PEEK or PA12 for the expansion of the maxilla in paediatric patients, exploring a new concept for approaching maxillary expansion with a metal-free fixed automatic appliance, based on pre-programmed set-up and anchored on deciduous teeth.

Materials: It is a retrospective comparative study with a sample of 40 children in early or mixed deciduous dentition and transversal maxillary deficit, 20 treated with ZeroExpander® in PEEK and 20 treated with ZeroExpander® in PA12 with a mean age of 7.3 years old.

: The injection of local anesthetics is the procedure that still causes the most fear and anxiety in a dental session; to minimize this problem, we can use topical anesthesia. The aim of this study is to analyze the tolerability and the clinical efficacy in the control of pain, during the subsequent injection of the local anesthetic, of an experimental anesthetic patch with a new formulation, which was previously tested in gel formula. : A total of 150 children, aged 4 to 9 years, were included in the study.

Background: Progressive apraxia of speech (PAOS) is characterized by difficulties with motor speech programming and planning. PAOS targets gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) microstructure that can be assessed using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and multishell applications, such as neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI). In this study, we aimed to apply DTI and NODDI to add further insight into PAOS tissue microstructure.

The term hypomineralisation of molars and incisors (MIH), introduced in 2001 by Weerheijm et al., describes a clinical state of hypomineralisation of permanent molars with frequent involvement of the incisors. MIH is considered a global dental problem with a prevalence ranging from 2.

Objective: Since its introduction 25 years ago, the Invisalign® system has undergone multiple digital and biomechanical evolutions and its effectiveness is often compared to traditional systems without considering the many differences which characterize them. The main aim of this systematic review is to look at the literature dealing with studies on teeth movements using the Invisalign® system and the management of these movements through digital planning and artificial intelligence.

Materials And Methods: The following electronic databases were searched: MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Oral Health Group's Trials Register, and CENTRAL.

Transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) pathology is categorized as type A-E in frontotemporal lobar degeneration and as type α-β in Alzheimer disease (AD) based on inclusion type. We screened amygdala slides of 131 cases with varying ages at death, clinical/neuroimaging findings, and AD neuropathologic changes for TDP-43 pathology using anti-phospho-TDP-43 antibodies. Seven cases (5%) only showed atypical TDP-43 inclusions that could not be typed.

Article Synopsis
  • Two main subtypes of progressive apraxia of speech are identified: phonetic PAOS (PAOS_ph) characterized by distorted sound substitutions, and prosodic PAOS (PAOS_pr) marked by segmented speech.
  • Thirty-three patients with PAOS and 19 healthy controls underwent diffusion MRI to assess white matter abnormalities using diffusion tensor tractography, revealing tract degeneration in both PAOS subtypes compared to controls, with specific differences in white matter structures affected in each subtype.
  • The study suggests that while both types share similar tract networks, distinct connectivity patterns exist; results indicate that diffusion MRI could be a valuable tool alongside clinical assessments for differentiating between PAOS subtypes.

Novel foods, including edible insects, are emerging because of their nutritional characteristics and low environmental impacts and could represent a valid alternative source of food in a more sustainable way. Edible insects have been shown to have beneficial effects on human health. Insect-derived bioactive peptides exert antihypertensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties and have protective effects against common metabolic conditions.

Cytokines, particularly IL-6, play a crucial role in modulating immune responses in the central nervous system (CNS). Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in neuroinflammatory conditions, as well as in the sera and brains of patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Huntington's, Multiple Sclerosis, and Alzheimer's. Additionally, alterations in regional brain pH have been noted in these conditions.

Flortaucipir (FTP) PET is a key imaging technique to evaluate tau burden indirectly. However, it appears to have greater utility for 3R+4R tau found in Alzheimer's disease (AD), compared to other non-AD tauopathies. The purpose of this study is to determine how flortaucipir uptake links to neuropathologically determined tau burden in AD and non-AD tauopathies.
