View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: Currently, little is known about differences in miRNA expression between KIT/PDGFRA mutant and KIT/PDGFRA wild-type (WT)-SDH deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). This prompted us to perform an integrated multiple expression profile of miRNA and mRNA, constructing an original miRNA-mRNA regulatory network in KIT/PDGFRA WT-SDH deficient GIST patients.
Patients & Methods: Analyses were carried out on KIT/PDGFRA mutant versus KIT/PDGFRA WT-SDH deficient GIST.
Unlabelled: DAPAR and ProStaR are software tools to perform the statistical analysis of label-free XIC-based quantitative discovery proteomics experiments. DAPAR contains procedures to filter, normalize, impute missing value, aggregate peptide intensities, perform null hypothesis significance tests and select the most likely differentially abundant proteins with a corresponding false discovery rate. ProStaR is a graphical user interface that allows friendly access to the DAPAR functionalities through a web browser.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: We sought to assess the impact of different oral P2Y12 receptor inhibitors on residual thrombus and reperfusion indexes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients enrolled in the COCTAIL II trial, which included 128 primary percutaneous coronary interventions randomized to intracoronary vs. intralesion abciximab bolus with or without thrombectomy.
Methods: Patients were divided into three groups: clopidogrel (n = 44), prasugrel (n = 45) and ticagrelor (n = 39).
DNA repair pathways play an essential role in cancer susceptibility by maintaining genomic integrity. This led us to investigate the influence of polymorphisms in the genes coding repair pathway enzymes on gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) susceptibility, tumour characteristics and clinical outcome. We investigated a panel of 20 polymorphisms in 11 genes in 81 cases and 147 controls.

Airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) was first described in 1987 and defined as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) with a brief release while allowing the patient to spontaneously breathe throughout the respiratory cycle. The current understanding of the optimal strategy to minimize ventilator-induced lung injury is to "open the lung and keep it open". APRV should be ideal for this strategy with the prolonged CPAP duration recruiting the lung and the minimal release duration preventing lung collapse.

Recent works have surveyed the different statistical methods to conduct imputation and have compared them on real or simulated data sets and recommended a list of missing value imputation methods for proteomics application. Although insightful, these comparisons do not account for two important facts: (i) depending on the proteomics data set, the missingness mechanism may be of different natures and (ii) each imputation method is devoted to a specific type of missingness mechanism.

Mortality from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains unacceptable, approaching 45% in certain high-risk patient populations. Method: This is a retrospective observational study. The sample included patients with medically refractory mTLE due to unilateral mesial temporal sclerosis who underwent either ATL or SelAH, at Hospital de Clinicas - UFPR, from 2005 to 2012.
Background: Thrombus burden and distal embolization are predictive of no-reflow during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We sought to compare the efficacy of pharmacological and catheter-based strategies for thrombus in patients with STEMI and high atherothrombotic burden.
Methods: Between January 2012 and December 2013, 128 STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI at 5 centers were randomly assigned in a 2 × 2 factorial design to intracoronary (IC) abciximab bolus (via the guide catheter) versus intralesion (IL) abciximab bolus, each with versus without aspiration thrombectomy (AT).
Frequency-domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) is a promising intracoronary imaging technique to study atherosclerosis. Indeed, its unprecedented spatial resolution allows the assessment of fibrous cap thickness, lipid pool and features of plaque vulnerability. Aim of this study was to determine the reproducibility of the in vivo FD-OCT measurements of lumen area and plaque components in serial studies.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to assess the clinical impact of optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Background: OCT provides unprecedented high-definition visualization of plaque/stent structures during PCI; however, the impact of OCT findings on outcome remains undefined.
Methods: In the context of the multicenter CLI-OPCI (Centro per la Lotta contro l'Infarto-Optimisation of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) registry, we retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing end-procedural OCT assessment and compared the findings with clinical outcomes.
High-throughput methods based on mass spectrometry (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, etc.) produce a wealth of data that cannot be analyzed without computational methods. The impact of the choice of method on the overall result of a biological study is often underappreciated, but different methods can result in very different biological findings.
