Northern Kentucky is the first NACCHO demonstration site in the nation to utilize the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) tool as one element in the development of a comprehensive community health plan. The Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department utilized several strategies to integrate MAPP and a variety of assessment tools into a continuous and seamless planning process that resulted in the Master Health Plan for Northern Kentucky 2005. These strategies were developed from using many of the assessment and planning tools developed by the National Association of County and City Health Officials including MAPP, the Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health, and the Assessment Protocol for Excellence in Public Health.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to test the effectiveness of a violence-prevention intervention, on the basis of Social Cognitive Theory to increase knowledge, self-efficacy, and skills, and to decrease assaults.
Methods: Investigators conducted a quasi-experimental study with 138 NAs in 3 intervention and 3 comparison homes.

Introduction: In addition to its role in apoptosis suppression, Bcl-2 has been reported to be co-expressed with neuroendocrine markers in several tissues, leading to speculation that this oncoprotein may promote neuroendocrine differentiation.
Aim: This study investigated whether Bcl-2 modulated neuroendocrine biopeptide expression.
Methods: Levels of chromogranin A, neurone specific enolase, protein gene peptide 9.
The first use of MALDI-TOF MS in the study of the products of RLi (R = Me, Bu) initiated oligomerisation of P[double bond, length as m-dash]C bonds is reported. These studies may be considered as models for analogous polymerisation reactions. The detected linear products with R-P and C-H end-groups are consistent with a chain growth mechanism similar to that known for olefins.

In the presence of catalytic base (DBU or DABCO) the vinylphosphines (2a-c) undergo quantitative 1,3-hydrogen migration over 3 d to give stable and isolable phosphaalkenes Ar(F)P=C(R)CH(3) (3a, Ar(F) = 2,6-(CF(3))(2)C(6)H(3), R = CH(3); 3b, Ar(F) = 2,6-(CF(3))(2)C(6)H(3), R = C(6)H(5); 3c, Ar(F) = 2,4,6-(CF(3))(3)C(6)H(2), R = CH(3)). Under analogous conditions, only 90% conversion is observed in the base-catalyzed rearrangement of MesP(H)C(CH(3))[double bond]CH(2) to MesP[double bond]C(CH(3))(2).

The use of psychometric techniques is not usually considered in the development of non-scale tools. In the development of these tools, both content validation and inter-rater reliability were assessed in an effort to produce better quality tools than would have occurred otherwise. The procedure employing content experts for content validation followed the usual protocol for both of the tools.

Nursing assistants (NAs) working in nursing homes are at risk for nonfatal workplace violence. The aims of this study were to describe the context in which assaults occur and to identify characteristics of the NAs related to the incidence of assaults. One hundred and thirty eight subjects participated.

Emergence, survivorship, lure attraction, and mating competition tests were performed on irradiated and unirradiated Mediterranean fruit flies in Hawaii. Unirradiated flies of the Vienna-7 (tsl) strain had higher emergence, flight ability, and survivorship compared with irradiated flies.

Introduction: There are an increasing number of communities within the United States that have limited or no access to primary healthcare. In recognition, many medical schools now provide opportunities and activities that offer exposure to these demographic areas in order to increase the presence of and community access to medical care and to promote these locations as practice site choices for graduating students. Evaluation of these enhancements has led to doubts whether this exposure timing is optimal in promoting practice in these settings.

Consequently, we measured the concentration of the nine major inorganic ions in the extra- and intracellular phases in heart, liver, and red cells with resting electrical potentials, E(N), of -86, -28, and -6 mV, respectively, under six different physiological conditions. We calculated the Nernst electric potential and the energy of ion movement between the phases.

Addition polymerization, the most general method of preparation for organic polymers, has successfully been extended to P=C bonds. The polymerization of a phosphaalkene has been initiated by thermolysis or with alkyllithium reagents. The unprecedented poly(methylenephosphine)s are easily oxidized using oxygen or sulfur to give air stable macromolecules.

Researchers are often limited in their assessment of skill performance due to inadequate and unrealistic measurement options. Simulation using standardized patients offers researchers an objective method to evaluate skill performance.

This article addresses the problem from an occupational health perspective and describes a pilot study focused an educational intervention to reduce resident assaults on certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in nursing homes. After a 4-hour education intervention, the study CNAs reported fewer physical assaults by residents and increased levels of knowledge and confidence in their ability to manage residents' aggressive behavior compared with a similar CNA group.
