In the title compound, {[Cu(CHO)(CHNO)]·5HO}, the Cu cations are coordinated in a square-pyramidal fashion, with four 3-(2-carb-oxy-phen-yl)propionate (cpp) carboxyl-ate O-atom donors in the basal plane, along with an N-atom donor from a -[2-(pyridin-3-yl-amino)-eth-yl]nicotinamide (pen) ligand in the apical position. [Cu(cpp)] coordination polymer layer motifs with embedded {Cu(OCO)} paddlewheel clusters are thereby constructed. These layer motifs are connected into a three-dimensional [Cu(cpp)(pen)] coordination polymer network by tethering pen ligands.

In the title compound, {[Cu(CHO)(CHNO)]·HO}, the Cu cations are coordinated in a square-pyramidal fashion, with pyridyl-N donor atoms from two -(2-(pyridin-3-yl-amino)-eth-yl)isonicotinamide (pein) ligands in the basal plane. The other three coordination sites are taken up by carboxyl-ate O-atom donors from three different 3-(2-carb-oxy-phen-yl)propionate (cpp) ligands. The central ethyl-enedi-amine segments of the pein ligands are disordered equally over two sets of positions.

Article Synopsis
  • Myeloma patients with renal failure still face a poor outlook even with improved treatments, highlighting a major challenge in their care.
  • The MERIT clinical trial aimed to see if reducing high levels of free light chains (FLC) through plasma exchanges would benefit these patients, but results showed no significant improvement in FLC levels or dialysis independence after the treatment.
  • To enhance outcomes, it’s essential to diagnose myeloma earlier and start effective therapy quickly, using regular monitoring of FLC levels to guide treatment decisions.

Parenting interventions can improve parenting outcomes, with widespread implications for children's developmental trajectories. Relational savoring (RS) is a brief attachment-based intervention with high potential for dissemination. Here we examine data from a recent intervention trial in order to isolate the mechanisms by which savoring predicts reflective functioning (RF) at treatment follow-up through an examination of the content of savoring sessions (specificity, positivity, connectedness, safe haven/secure base, self-focus, child-focus).

This report describes two patients who presented with severe type B lactic acidosis and shock, initially thought to be due to bowel ischaemia/myocardial infarction and pulmonary sepsis, respectively. This led to a delay in the diagnosis of thiamine deficiency. In both cases there was a dramatic response to intravenous thiamine, confirming the diagnosis of Shoshin beriberi.

Savouring is an emotion regulation strategy and intervention that focuses on the process of attending, intensifying and prolonging positive experiences and positive affect associated with these memories. Personal savouring involves a reflection on positive memories that are specific to the individual and do not involve others. In contrast, relational savouring entails reflecting on instances when people were responsive to the needs of their significant others.

In this study, we sought to expand on what is currently known regarding autonomic nervous system (ANS) reactivity in middle childhood as a function of attachment. ANS activity includes multiple indices - respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) is an index of parasympathetic nervous system activation (PNS) and electrodermal activity (EDA) is an index of sympathetic nervous system activation (SNS). Children ( = 103) completed Child Attachment Interviews and read vignettes describing situations aimed to activate attachment needs (NEED; e.

Monitoring soil and crop condition is vital for the sustainable management of agricultural systems. Often, land management decision-making requires rapid assessment of conditions, which is difficult if samples need to be taken and sent elsewhere for analysis. In recent years, advances in field-based spectroscopy have led to improvements in real-time monitoring; however, the cost of equipment and user training still makes it inaccessible for most land managers.

Relapse in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) has been studied previously, but there are few studies on renal relapse in particular. Identifying patients at high risk of renal relapse may aid in optimizing clinical management. We investigated which clinical and histological parameters are risk factors for renal relapse in ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis (AAGN).

We recently found an association between androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's disease is a disease of advanced age, we hypothesize that older individuals on ADT may be at greatest risk. We conducted a retrospective multi-institutional analysis among 16,888 individuals with prostate cancer using an informatics approach.

Importance: A growing body of evidence supports a link between androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and cognitive dysfunction, including Alzheimer disease. However, it is currently unknown whether ADT may contribute to the risk of dementia more broadly.

Objective: To use an informatics approach to examine the association of ADT as a treatment for prostate cancer with the subsequent development of dementia (eg, senile dementia, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Alzheimer dementia).

Background: Although today's youth are interested in using the internet to access and manage information related to their health, little information exists about parental attitudes towards the release of health information to adolescents.

Methods: Structured interviews were conducted with the parents of 83 adolescents detained at a large Northern California juvenile detention facility to examine parental perceptions toward allowing their children online access to their own health information.

Results: The majority of parents interviewed (70%) wanted their children to have online access to their own health information.

Purpose: Cataract surgery is generally safe; however, severe complications exist. Preexisting conditions are known to predispose patients to intraoperative and postoperative complications. This study quantifies the relationship between aggregated preoperative risk factors and cataract surgery complications, and builds a model predicting outcomes on an individual level, given a constellation of patient characteristics.

Objective: We investigated whether ENT involvement is associated with renal biopsy findings and renal function in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV).

Methods: Newly diagnosed AAV patients derived from three international, multicentre trials were included. To investigate an association between ENT involvement and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at diagnosis and 5-year follow-up, we performed multivariable regression analyses including clinical and histopathological parameters.

Background: Membranous nephropathy leads to end-stage renal disease in more than 20% of patients. Although immunosuppressive therapy benefits some patients, trial evidence for the subset of patients with declining renal function is not available. We aimed to assess whether immunosuppression preserves renal function in patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy with declining renal function.

Adolescents are a group likely to seek and, perhaps, most likely to benefit from electronic access to health information. Despite significant advances in technical capabilities over the past decade, to date neither electronic medical record vendors nor many health care systems have adequately addressed the functionality and process design considerations needed to protect the confidentiality of adolescent patients in an electronic world. We propose a shared responsibility for creating the necessary tools and processes to maintain the adolescent confidentiality required by most states: (1) system vendors must provide key functionality in their products (adolescent privacy default settings, customizable privacy controls, proxy access, and health information exchange compatibility), and (2) health care institutions must systematically address relevant adolescent confidentiality policies and process design issues.
