Classification of patients with breast cancer according to Nottingham prognostic index highlights significant differences in immunohistochemical marker expression.

Background: Prognosis and treatment of patients with breast carcinoma of no special type (NST) is dependent on a few established parameters, such as tumor size, histological grade, lymph node stage, expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER-2/neu, and proliferation index. The original Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI) employs a three-tiered classification system that stratifies patients with breast cancer into good, moderate, and poor prognostic groups. The aim of our study was to use robust immunohistochemical methodology for determination of ER, PR, HER-2/neu, Ki-67, p53, and Bcl-2, and to observe differences in the expression of these markers when patients are stratified according to the original, three-tiered Nottingham Prognostic Index.

Malignant mixed Müllerian tumor is a rare malignancy of the genital tract and extremely uncommon in extragenital sites. This report describes a case of malignant mixed Müllerian tumor arising in the lower peritoneum of a 72-year-old female patient. The patient presented with ascites, lower abdominal mass and pleural effusion.

Primary hydatid cyst of the gallbladder: a case report.

Introduction: Echinococcosis, or hydatid disease, is endemic in some regions of the world, and has been a common pathology of surgical wards in Kosovo. Primary hydatid cyst of the gallbladder is an unusual and very rare localization of hydatid disease. So far, only five cases that fulfill the criteria of primary gallbladder hydatidosis have been published in the English medical literature.

Invasive ductal carcinoma within fibroadenoma: a case report.

Case Presentation: A 41-years-old female with incidentally diagnosed nonparasitic splenic cyst which initially was asymptomatic. After two years of follow up, the patient underwent surgery; subtotal cystectomy and omentoplasty as an additional procedure.

Objective: The aim of this study was to validate the role of p16(INK4a) immunocytochemistry as a marker of cervical epithelial neoplasia in cytology and biopsy samples.

A comparison of three single layer anastomotic techniques in the colon of the rat.

Introduction: Although intestinal anastomoses are mainly made by staplers, manual anastomoses are still in use worldwide. In previous studies, single layer anastomosis has shown better results compared to double layer techniques.

Purpose: To test experimentally some aspects of three different single layer anastomotic techniques in order to identify advantages and disadvantages of each.

Symptomatic subserosal gastric lipoma successfully treated with enucleation.

Gastric lipomas are rare tumors, accounting for 2%-3% of all benign gastric tumors. They are of submucosal or extremely rare subserosal origin. Although most gastric lipomas are usually detected incidentally, they can cause abdominal pain, dyspeptic disorders, obstruction, invagination, and hemorrhages.

[An in vitro study of tracheal smooth muscle response to ethanol in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome].

The aim of this paper was the registration of the answers of the smooth musculature of the trachea at the different concentrations of ethanol, at the gestationary weeks of the newborns with the respiratory distress syndrome. In vitro examination was worked at the nonhuman preparations of the trachea of the newborns at autopsy material, the same material of the trachea and the lungs is fixed on 10% puferized formaline for the pathomorphologic examinations (RDS). The incubation of the preparation is performed on the water bath with Kreps solution, with the constant aerozation (O2 95% and CO2 5%).
