Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed the health records of Canadian infants diagnosed with biliary atresia between 1985 and 2002 to evaluate their treatment outcomes.
  • The research identified 349 patients, revealing a median age of 55 days at the time of the Kasai operation, with a 4-year survival rate of 81%, showing no significant difference between the earlier and later eras of the study.
  • Findings also highlighted that age at the time of surgery significantly influenced survival, with younger patients having better outcomes, and emphasized the need for improved policies to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.
