Materials And Methods: The crowns of forty human canine teeth were removed, and after biomechanical preparation and filling, the roots were embedded in acrylic resin blocks. The post spaces were made, and root canal molding was performed with self-cured acrylic resin.

Many rivers across the world have experienced a significant streamflow reduction over the last decades. Drivers of the observed streamflow changes are multiple, including climate change (CC), land use and land cover changes (LULCC), water transfers and river impoundment. Many of these drivers inter-act simultaneously, making it difficult to discern the impact of each driver individually.

Impact of cyclosporine levels on the development of acute graft versus host disease after reduced intensity conditioning allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

We analyze the impact of cyclosporine (CsA) levels in the development of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after reduced intensity conditioning allogeneic hematopoietic transplantation (allo-RIC). We retrospectively evaluated 156 consecutive patients who underwent HLA-identical sibling allo-RIC at our institution. CsA median blood levels in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks after allo-RIC were 134 (range: 10-444), 219 (54-656), 253 (53-910) and 224 (30-699) ng/mL; 60%, 16%, 11% and 17% of the patients had median CsA blood levels below 150 ng/mL during these weeks.

Synthesis and characterization of graphene: influence of synthesis variables.

The optimization of graphene growth on copper foils using an atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition setup is reported. CH4 and H2 were used as precursor gases and Raman spectroscopy as the main graphene characterization technique. Different growth parameters, including temperature and reaction time, the molar ratio of CH4/H2 in the feed and total flow of gases during the reaction step, were studied in detail.

Characterization of plasmid-mediated β-lactamases in fecal colonizing patients in the hospital and community setting in Spain.

Objectives: HistoScanning™ (HS) is a method of ecographic diagnosis of prostate cancer. We analyze the effectiveness of the HS realization prior to the biopsies for the prostate adenocarcinoma diagnosis.

Epidemiological studies suggest that consumption of isoflavones correlates with a lower incidence of breast cancer.

Brazilian nut consumption improves selenium status and glutathione peroxidase activity and reduces atherogenic risk in obese women.

Studies have shown that there are inverse relationships between nut consumption and the reduction of cardiovascular risk. This study tested the hypothesis that daily consumption of Brazilian nuts would have a positive effect upon selenium (Se) status, erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity, lipid profile, and atherogenic risk in severely obese women. Thirty-seven severely obese women each consumed 1 Brazilian nut a day (290 μg of Se a day) for 8 weeks.

Metabolism of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and estrone-sulfate by human platelets.

The aim of the present research was to study the uptake of DHEAS, and to establish the intracrine capacity of human platelets to produce sex steroid hormones. The DHEAS transport was evaluated through the uptake of [(3)H]-DHEAS in the presence or absence of different substrates through the organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) family. The activity of sulfatase enzyme was evaluated, and the metabolism of DHEAS was measured by the conversion of [(3)H]-DHEAS to [(3)H]-androstenedione, [(3)H]-testosterone, [(3)H]-estrone and [(3)H]-17beta-estradiol.

Aim: This study describes a clinical case of type III dens invaginatus with an extensive periradicular lesion treated successfully.

Background: Dens invaginatus is a maldevelopment of the dental germ which occurs as a result of the invagination of the enamel organ. These cases may present difficulties with respect to its diagnosis and treatment because of canal morphology.

Thalidomide in refractory bleeding due to gastrointestinal angiodysplasias.

Objectives: to assess the efficacy of thalidomide in the treatment of relapsed or refractory bleeding secondary to gastrointestinal angiodysplasia.

Material And Methods: we carried out a prospective study of 12 patients with bleeding due to gastrointestinal angiodysplasia refractory to conventional therapy who were treated with thalidomide. For each patient, we considered: age, sex, underlying disease, previous therapies, dose and duration of thalidomide treatment, evolution of haemoglobin levels and adverse effects of treatment.

Injection of sodium hypochlorite beyond the apical foramen--a case report.

The aim of this study was to report a clinical case of extravasation of 1% sodium hypochlorite into the periapical tissues during endodontic treatment. During apical debridement, absence of reflux of the irrigating solution was observed, followed by root canal hemorrhage. The patient immediately complained of intense pain, and a profuse edema and hyperemia was observed on the left side of her face compatible with extravasation of hypochlorite to the periapex.

Ecological relationships among fossil vertebrate groups are interpreted based on evidence of modification features and paleopathologies on fossil bones. Here we describe an ichnological assemblage composed of trace fossils on reptile bones, mainly sphenodontids, crocodyliforms and maniraptoran theropods. They all come from La Buitrera, an early Late Cretaceous locality in the Candeleros Formation of northwestern Patagonia, Argentina.

Triglyceride levels and apolipoprotein E polymorphism in patients with acute pancreatitis.

Background: Hypertriglyceridemia is an unusual cause of acute pancreatitis and sometimes considered to be an epiphenomenon. This study aimed to investigate the clinical and analytical features and the APOE genotypes in patients with acute pancreatitis and severe hypertriglyceridemia.

Methods: We undertook a one-year, prospective study of patients with acute pancreatitis whose first laboratory analysis on admission to the emergency department included measurement of serum triglycerides.

[Characterisation of a CTX-M-15-producing Shigella sonnei in a Spanish patient who had not travelled abroad].
