is a bacterium that can infect fish, mammals, and humans. In this study, the -313 strain was isolated from the brain of an infected tilapia, and the analysis of its sequenced genome is reported. The data revealed that -313 carried antibiotic-resistant genes and virulence factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the urgent need for effective antimicrobials due to rising antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and investigates the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).
  • AgNPs were found to exhibit strong antibacterial efficacy against various resistant bacterial strains, demonstrating bactericidal activity at low concentrations without causing harm to mammalian cells.
  • The research also revealed that AgNPs could enhance the effectiveness of antibiotics, significantly reducing the required concentrations of aminoglycosides, while remaining non-toxic to human cells.

Protein conformational diseases are characterized by misfolding and toxic aggregation of metastable proteins, often culminating in neurodegeneration. Enteric bacteria influence the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases; however, the complexity of the human microbiome hinders our understanding of how individual microbes influence these diseases. Disruption of host protein homeostasis, or proteostasis, affects the onset and progression of these diseases.
