Using SARS-CoV-2 Sequencing Data to Identify Reinfection Cases in the Global Emerging Infections Surveillance Program, United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines SARS-CoV-2 reinfection as a positive COVID-19 test result >90 days after the collection date for the initial positive test or if sequencing confirms a different lineage is causing the reinfection. Reinfection dynamics have been examined by using PCR or antigen surveillance data. We identified patients in the US Military Health System who had >1 positive SARS-CoV-2 test during March 2020-July 2022 by using whole-genome sequencing data to identify reinfection cases, then compared those data with patient demographics, symptoms, and vaccination status.

To analyze the effects of lingual frenotomy on adults with restrictive ankyloglossia and difficult direct laryngoscopy exposure. A case series study was conducted. Restriction of tongue protrusion due to ankyloglossia was identified in 2 patients who had a history of suboptimal true vocal fold (TVF) exposure on direct laryngoscopy for phonomicrosurgery.

Sexual minority men (SMM) face persistent stigma in Zambia. From a holistic perspective, we aim to explore its impacts within and between multiple socioecological levels, demonstrating how their interactions create a vicious cycle of barriers to the well-being of SMM. In-depth interviews were conducted with 20 purposively recruited SMM from Lusaka, Zambia.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). To address STIs, one rural county public school district developed a series of Family Life Programs to educate pre-teens about pertinent health information. The Schooling Cancer Program (SCP) was developed in partnership with the local Cancer Research and Resource Center to raise awareness about cancer risk factors including HPV-related cancers and HPV prevention methods.

Background/aim: Colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAdenoCa) and appendiceal adenocarcinoma (AAdenoCa) are diseases of the same histopathological type that metastasise to the liver and peritoneum. In selected subgroups, peritonectomy and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) may be indicated as part of the multimodal treatment plan. However, literature comparing the survival outcomes and preoperative tumour activity and burden of CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa peritonectomy patients without synchronous liver metastases (sLM) is scarce.

Broadband radiometric measurements from GPS satellites reveal summertime Arctic Ocean Albedo decreases more rapidly than sea ice recedes.

New measurements from the Arctic ± 40 days around the summer solstice show reflected sunlight from north of 80°N decreases 20-35%. Arctic sea ice coverage decreases 7-9% over this same time period (as reported by the NSIDC) implying Arctic sea ice albedo decreases in addition to the sea ice receding. Similar Antarctic measurements provide a baseline to which Arctic measurements are compared.
