Treatment wetlands have the potential to treat a range of water and wastewater pollutants while using less energy and chemicals than conventional treatment processes, making them a viable option for improving the sustainability of water treatment systems. However, water treatment systems used for water reuse must also be protective of human health. Clinically, cardiovascular disease has been recognized as a risk factor for fatal anaphylaxis; however, there is scant forensic pathology research investigating this risk factor, whereas autopsy textbooks emphasize physical respiratory changes seen in the broader clinical cohort. This 20-year retrospective study examined all fatal anaphylactic deaths in the state of Queensland, Australia, to document the underlying disease of the cases, tryptase levels, triggers, and postmortem findings.

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome is a complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy caused by uncontrolled activation of the alternative complement pathway in the setting of autoantibodies to or rare pathogenic genetic variants in complement proteins. Pregnancy may serve as a trigger and unmask atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome/complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy (aHUS/CM-TMA), which has severe, life-threatening consequences. It can be difficult to diagnose aHUS/CM-TMA in pregnancy due to overlapping clinical features with other thrombotic microangiopathy syndromes including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Because it may have potential to expedite palliative care interventions per American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program Palliative Care Best Practices Guidelines, we sought to determine if trauma team members could use the SQ to accurately predict 1-year mortality in trauma patients.
Methods: A multicenter, prospective, cohort study collected data (August 2020 to February 2021) on trauma team members' responses to the SQ at 24 hours from admission.
