Concomitant Uterine and Bilateral Adnexal Torsion in a Postmenopausal Woman: A Case Report.

Adnexal torsion is a well-recognized gynecologic emergency; however, uterine torsion is less well-known. The majority of uterine torsions occur in gravid uteri; torsion in postmenopausal patients is rare. We report a case of uterine and bilateral adnexal torsion in a postmenopausal woman due to a large leiomyoma.

Rapid Progression of Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma Mimicking a Postoperative Complication in a Young Woman: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare disease with a poor prognosis that often presents with vague symptoms and inconclusive laboratory test results. Causes include industrial pollutants, primarily asbestos, and certain genetic mutations, such as BAP1. Due to the nonspecific symptoms, it is often incidentally diagnosed during or after other surgical procedures.

A Randomized Comparative Study Evaluating Various Cough Stress Tests and 24-Hour Pad Test with Urodynamics in the Diagnosis of Stress Urinary Incontinence.

Purpose: The cough stress test is a common and accepted tool to evaluate stress urinary incontinence but there is no agreement on how the test should be performed. We assessed the diagnostic ability of different cough stress tests performed when varying patient position and bladder volume using urodynamic stress urinary incontinence as the gold standard. The 24-hour pad test was also evaluated.

In this study we show the results obtained once we applied a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic and long-term process in patients with major depressive disorder, attending a public health institution (PHI).

Methods: From a list of female volunteers, we randomly selected 30 patients who met the diagnostic criteria of major depression.

Making a Difference in Science Education: The Impact of Undergraduate Research Programs.

To increase the numbers of underrepresented racial minority students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), federal and private agencies have allocated significant funding to undergraduate research programs, which have been shown to students' intentions of enrolling in graduate or professional school. Analyzing a longitudinal sample of 4,152 aspiring STEM majors who completed the 2004 Freshman Survey and 2008 College Senior Survey, this study utilizes multinomial hierarchical generalized linear modeling (HGLM) and propensity score matching techniques to examine how participation in undergraduate research affects STEM students' intentions to enroll in STEM and non-STEM graduate and professional programs. Findings indicate that participation in an undergraduate research program significantly improved students' probability of indicating plans to enroll in a STEM graduate program.

Predicting 6-week mortality after acute variceal bleeding: role of Classification and Regression Tree analysis.

Background: Available prognostic scores for mortality after acute variceal bleeding are mainly based on logistic regression analysis but may have some limitations that can restrict their clinical value.

Effect of seromuscular colocystoplasty lined with urothelium and partial detrusorectomy on a new canine model of reduced bladder capacity.

We developed a canine model of reduced bladder capacity by spraying talc on the outer surface of the detrusor after peeling the peritoneum from the bladder. This method was effective to reduce bladder capacity to almost a third of normal and this reduction persisted for the 6-month followup. On this model we performed detrusorectomy (auto-augmentation) and seromuscular colocystoplasty, and compared the results.

Analysis by mRNA levels of the expression of six G protein alpha-subunit genes in mammalian cells and tissues.

The distribution and levels of expression of Gs alpha, Gi1 alpha, Gi2 alpha, Gi3 alpha, Go alpha, and Gx alpha mRNAs were compared by Northern blot analysis using several rat tissues and selected human and rat cell lines.
