Jellyfish stings can cause acute inflammatory skin lesions that may hesitate in keloids. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) represents one of the most effective treatments for newly developed keloids. Aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of PDL on newly developed keloids specifically induced by jellyfish stings in pediatric patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Lichen striatus (LS) is a self-resolving skin condition primarily affecting children, characterized by a linear pattern and mainly seen in females, with an average patient age of 3.8 years.
  • A review of 27 articles involving 440 patients suggests that LS may be linked to immune system dysregulation, where cytotoxic T-cells attack skin cells after losing immune tolerance.
  • It is mostly diagnosed clinically based on its unique characteristics, with a typical duration of about 9.5 months, and treatment is rarely needed, highlighting the benign nature of the condition while also pointing out the need for more research in this area.

Corticophobia, fear of applying topical corticosteroids (TCSs), is a rising issue in industrialized countries, despite the actual safety of TCSs for atopic dermatitis (AD). Patients attending the Pediatric Dermatology Unit for skin examination were screened for AD. AD patients were included, and data were collected.

We present the case of a 4-year-old boy with annular, pruritic macules on the face who did not respond to the application of topical immunosuppressive therapy for atopic dermatitis. In this case report, we emphasize how pruritic annular macules that are not responsive to immunosuppressants should always be suspected of being tinea incognita.

Spitzoid lesions are challenging melanocytic lesions comprising benign, intermediate, and malignant lesions. In this study, we aimed to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of clinical and dermatoscopical evaluations of pediatric spitzoid ear lesions. We collected and analyzed, clinically, dermatoscopically, and histologically, pediatric spitzoid ear lesions.

Both COVID-19 and vaccinations against it have been related to immune cutaneous manifestations. Here, we present a case of childhood vitiligo, developed after a COVID-19 infection.

Article Synopsis
  • Spitzoid lesions in children include mainly benign Spitz nevi (82%), with a smaller percentage of atypical Spitz tumors (17%) and rare cases of Spitz melanoma (1%).
  • Histopathological and dermatoscopic analyses reveal correlations between lesion characteristics and benign or atypical/malignant histology, highlighting that certain visual features can aid in diagnosis.
  • The study emphasizes caution with atypical Spitz tumors due to their potential malignancy, advocating for careful assessment in pediatric patients.

Anogenital warts (AWs) represent a therapeutic challenge, especially in infants, due to sensitive skin and frequent disease recurrence. Though the initial wait-and-see approach is often adopted in asymptomatic immunocompetent children, with spontaneous clearing in almost 90% of cases within two years, persistent or symptomatic lesions can be reasonably treated. However, few studies have been conducted on children.

We report the case of a toddler, with a history of mild atopic dermatitis (AD) since early infancy, presented to the Giannina Gaslini, a pediatric polyclinic hospital, 14 days after measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination, for the occurrence of a disseminated vesico-pustular rash, accompanied by general malaise, fever, restlessness, and anorexia. Eczema herpeticum (EH) was diagnosed clinically and confirmed by laboratory examinations. The exact pathogenesis of EH in AD is still debated and possibly involves an inter-play between altered cell-mediated and humoral immunity, failure to up-regulate antiviral proteins, and exposure of viral binding sites through the dermatitis and an epidermal barrier failure.

Introduction: We previously reported on the immunogenicity and safety of BNT162b2 in a large cohort of patients with cancer after the first and second doses (Di Noia et al., 2021) [1]. Herein, we present result after six months of follow-up.

Purpose: We assessed the immunogenicity and safety of the BNT162b2 vaccine in a large cohort of patients with cancer (CP).

Experimental Design: From March 1, 2021 to March 20, 2021, this prospective cohort study included 816 CP afferent to our institution and eligible for the vaccination. A cohort of 274 health care workers (HCW) was used as age- and sex-matched control group.

Background: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has numerous beneficial effects on human health, including stimulating vitamin D and serotonin production and immuno-regulatory activities. Conversely, UV radiation is also classified as a group one carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Purpose: To investigated the effects of UV radiation avoidance in melanoma patients in terms of vitamin D levels but also of bone mineral density and trabecular bone microarchitecture.

Although most of the analyses included transverse colon cancers (TCC) among right colon cancer (RCC), it is not completely clear if they present total similarities with RCC or if they have their specific features. Therefore, we present an observational study to evaluate clinicopathological characteristics and survival data of patients with TCC. We retrospectively reviewed 450 RCC, of whom 97 stages I-IV TCC were included in this multicenter study; clinicopathological and molecular parameters were analyzed to identify prognostic factors for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS).
