Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by elevated pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance, potentially leading to right ventricular failure. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is the most common type of PH in women of childbearing age and, as per the modified World Health Organization (mWHO) classification of maternal cardiovascular risk, it falls into mWHO class IV and pregnancy is contraindicated. These patients face an exceptionally high risk of maternal mortality and morbidity, with estimated maternal cardiac event rates ranging from 40 to 100% during pregnancy, because physiological changes happening in pregnancy exacerbate the disorder.

Background And Aims: Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN)and persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV)infection are associated with impaired local cellular immunity; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes are not well understood. The involvement of the programmed death 1/programmed death 1 ligand (PD-1/PD-L1) pathway in the downregulation of T cell function has been demonstrated recently and it is believed to have a role in the onset and persistence of HPV infection and cervical cancer. Our aim is to analyze the role of PD-L1 in the CIN to identify a possible biomarker of HSIL (CIN2+) progression and persistence.

: Transgender people are defined as individuals whose gender identity does not entirely match their sex assigned at birth. Gender surgery typically represents the conclusive and irreversible step in the therapeutic process, especially for the impact on the reproductive sphere. The increased awareness of gender dysphoria and the expanding array of medical and surgical options, including minimally invasive techniques, contribute to the gradual increase in the social impact of transgender surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • Several mechanisms, such as immune system changes and new blood vessel formation, contribute to endometriosis development, prompting research into markers like the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR).
  • This study analyzed 199 premenopausal women with endometriosis to explore the relationship between NLR values and symptoms like chronic pelvic pain.
  • While no significant associations were found between NLR and common indicators (like CA 125), the data suggests a potential link between higher NLR and chronic pelvic pain, particularly in women without prior treatments, which could help in tailoring follow-up care.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemangiomas are the most common benign soft tissue tumors in children, but those located in the genital area are rare, prompting this study to review literature on pediatric vulvovaginal hemangiomas for better diagnosis and treatment guidance.
  • - The literature review from August 2009 to May 2023 showed that most hemangiomas are benign and often resolve on their own, but some can cause serious symptoms like heavy bleeding, necessitating advanced diagnostic methods like CT or MRI.
  • - Existing treatments range from medical therapy to careful monitoring, with a need for more research on effective management, particularly for symptomatic cases; treatment should be tailored to individual circumstances and clinical expertise.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the role of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a potential predictor for recurrence of high-grade cervical lesions (CIN2+) after treatment, focusing on the impact of persistent HPV infection.
  • The analysis was conducted on a dataset of 444 patients treated between 2011 and 2020, evaluating clinical characteristics and NLR at diagnosis.
  • Results indicate that patients with an NLR below 1.34 had a significantly higher recurrence rate and lower 5-year recurrence-free survival, suggesting NLR could be a useful marker in clinical settings.

Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) persistence is considered the main risk factor for neoplastic progression, and evidence suggests that regulatory T cells play an important role in the failure of viral elimination. Regulatory T cells may be involved in maintaining a microenvironment favourable for viral persistence and neoplasticity, through a deregulation of the local immune response. The association between altered immune function and the development of chronic infections, cancer (solid and haematological), and autoimmune diseases is documented in the literature.
