Background: This study aimed to analyze the effect of caffeine ingestion on basketball performance in semi-professional female players.
Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized experimental design was conducted, in two different periods separated by a week. Twelve female basketball players ingested 3 mg of caffeine/kg of body mass or a placebo.
The purpose of this study was twofold: to analyse physical performance fluctuations throughout match play in women's handball; and to investigate whether physical performance fluctuations are affected by contextual factors (i.e., level of the opponent and playing positions).

Effects of a short-term detraining period on neuromuscular performance in female handball players. The purpose of this study was to explore and compare the influence of contextual factors (halves of the match, level of the opponent, match outcome and player role) on external load during official matches in women's handball. Twenty-two semi-professional female players from the Spanish 2 Division were monitored across 13 official home matches.

GBA1-PD patients exhibit earlier disease onset, severe motor impairment, and heightened cognitive decline. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) offers motor improvement for PD patients, but its cognitive effects, particularly in GBA1-PD, are debated.

J Strength Cond Res 38(12): e769-e775, 2024-The aim of this study was to explore the external load experienced by female handball players according to the time played in official matches (≥40, <40, and ≤20 minutes) and in relation to playing positions (backs, pivots, and wings). Twenty-two female players from the Spanish second Division were monitored across 13 matches.

The present study examines the impact stimulation frequency has on VF following bilateral STN-DBS in PD.
Methods: Prospective study of 38 consecutive patients with PD with low frequency STN-DBS (LFS) (n = 10) and high frequency STN-DBS (HFS) (n = 14), and a non-operated PD control group consisting of patients with fluctuating response to dopaminergic medication (n = 14) homogeneous in age, education, disease duration, and global cognitive function.
Cognitive difficulties are reported as lasting sequelae within post COVID-19 condition. However, the chronicity of these difficulties and related factors of fatigue, mood, and perceived health have yet to be fully determined. To address this, the current longitudinal study aimed to clarify the trends of cognitive test performance and cognitive domain impairment following COVID-19 onset, and whether hospitalization influences outcomes.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of sulfur hexafluoride as an ultrasound contrast agent for the diagnosis of a perianal fistula by comparing it with those of 50% diluted hydrogen peroxide.
The aim of this study was to explore the reliability and feasibility of the isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) and dynamic strength index (DSI) in semi-professional handball players (seventeen male and eighteen female). A cross-sectional design was used to determine the test-retest reliability of several kinetic metrics registered with a force plates. The peak force, peak relative force, rate of force development (RFD ), and impulse were selected from the IMTP test, whereas the peak propulsive force was chosen from the countermovement jump test to obtain the DSI.

Methods: All patients with available DNA samples (N=32) who participated in a phase 2 clinical trial (NCT00498160) where they received an HLA mismatched co-transplantation of living donor kidney and facilitating cell-enriched HSCT were included in this study. High-resolution HLA genotyping data were used to calculate HLA amino acid mismatches (AAMM), Eplet MM, three-dimensional electrostatic mismatch scores (EMS-3D), PIRCHE scores, HLA-DPB1 T-cell epitope group MM, HLA-B leader sequence MM, and KIR ligands MM between the donor and recipient in both directions.
This study examined the force-velocity profile differences between men and women in three variations of row exercises. Twenty-eight participants (14 men and 14 women) underwent maximum dynamic strength assessments in the free prone bench row (PBR), bent-over barbell row (BBOR), and Smith machine bent-over row (SMBOR) in a randomized order. Subjects performed a progressive loading test from 30 to 100% of 1-RM (repetition maximum), and the mean propulsive velocity was measured in all attempts.

Background And Objectives: Cortical motor stimulation (CMS) is used to modulate neuropathic pain. The literature supports its use; however, short follow-up studies might overestimate its real effect. This study brings real-world evidence from two independent centers about CMS methodology and its long-term outcomes.

Objective: To demonstrate whether the use of the FilmArray® Meningitis/Encephalitis panel (M/E) in the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis can be optimized based on the screening of cerebrospinal fluid biochemical parameters and whether there is a correlation between biochemical data and positive results of the technique.
Material And Methods: We used data from La Paz University Hospital between September 5, 2017 and December 1, 2021, from patients who had had the FilmArray® panel M/E performed on cerebrospinal fluid samples.
Results: Bacterial meningitis was suspected in 63.
Performance analysis based on artificial intelligence together with game-related statistical models aims to provide relevant information before, during and after a competition. Due to the evaluation of handball performance focusing mainly on the result and not on the analysis of the dynamics of the game pace through artificial intelligence, the aim of this study was to design and validate a specific handball instrument based on real-time observational methodology capable of identifying, quantifying, classifying and relating individual and collective tactical behaviours during the game. First, an instrument validation by an expert panel was performed.

Injuries are common in team sports and can impact both team and individual performance. In particular, hamstring strain injuries are some of the most common injuries. Furthermore, hamstring injury ratios, in number of injuries and total absence days, have doubled in the last 21 seasons in professional soccer.

Therefore, the aim of the present study was to analyze the available scientific evidence on the influence of strength training variables on morphological and/or neuromuscular adaptations in healthy prepubertal populations with no previous experience in this type of training according to the descriptive sample characteristics. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis, 22 studies were selected after a systematic search and selection process using four electronic databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, and SPORT Discus.
