Introduction: The knowledge of the aetiology of Behçet disease (BD), an immune-mediated vasculitis, is limited. HLA-B, mainly HLA-B51, and HLA-A molecules are associated with disease, but the ultimate cause of this association remains obscure. There is evidence that NK cells participate in the etiopathology of BD.

Behçet's disease (BD) is an immune-mediated vasculitis related to imbalances between the innate and adaptive immune response. Infectious agents or environmental factors may trigger the disease in genetically predisposed individuals. HLA-B51 is the genetic factor stronger associated with the disease, although the bases of this association remain elusive.

The purpose of this work was to contribute to the understanding of the mechanism of action of two new ixodicides. The histological and ultrastructural alterations of Rhipicephalus microplus oocytes (San Alfonso strain) treated with two new ethyl-carbamates (ethyl-4-bromophenyl carbamate and ethyl-4-chlorophenyl carbamate) by the adult immersion test were evaluated by light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The effects of the carbamates on embryogenesis in eggs were evaluated by fluorescence microscopy using DAPI staining.

Behçet's disease (BD) is an immune-mediated systemic disorder with a well-established genetic base. In a previous study, using a next generation sequencing approach, we found many rare variants and some functional polymorphisms in genes related to autoinflammatory syndromes (AID): CECR1, MEFV, MVK, NLRP3, NOD2, PSTPIP1 and TNFRSF1A in our BD cohort. Our strategy did not allow us to establish either number of patients with variants, proportion of individuals accumulating them or relationship with other genetic factors.

The objective of the study is to determine the importance of the mode of onset as prognostic factor in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Data were collected from the Spanish Scleroderma Registry (RESCLE), a nationwide retrospective multicenter database created in 2006. As first symptom, we included Raynaud's phenomenon (RP), cutaneous sclerosis, arthralgia/arthritis, puffy hands, interstitial lung disease (ILD), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and digestive hypomotility.

Objectives: To assess the clinical manifestations and prognosis of Spanish patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) according to their immunological profile.

Methods: From the Spanish Scleroderma Study Group or RESCLE (Registro de ESCLErodermia as Spanish nomenclature) Registry we selected those patients in which anti-centromere (ACA), anti-topoisomerase I (ATA), and anti-RNA polymerase III (ARA) antibodies had been determined, and a single positivity for each SSc specific antibody was detected. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and survival data were compared according to the serologic status of these antibodies.

Objectives: The low overall prevalence of systemic sclerosis (SSc) and the low proportion of male patients have resulted in a scarcity of studies assessing sex differences in Ssc patients, and contradictory results have often been show among those studies that have been performed.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted with the Spanish RESCLE register to analyse the influence of gender on survival of SSc patients.

Results: In total, 1506 SSc patients (1341 women, 165 men) were recruited from 21 centres.

Background: Extraparenchymal neurocysticercosis (ExPNCC), an infection caused by Taenia solium cysticerci that mainly occurs in the ventricular compartment (Ve) or the basal subarachnoid space (SAb), is more severe but less frequent and much less studied than parenchymal neurocysticercosis (ParNCC). Demographic, clinical, radiological, and lumbar cerebrospinal fluid features of patients affected by ExPNCC are herein described and compared with those of ParNCC patients.

Methodology And Principal Findings: 429 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of neurocysticercosis, attending the Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía, a tertiary reference center in Mexico City, from 2000 through 2014, were included.

Article Synopsis
  • Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare disease with varying progression and prognosis, and this study analyzed survival rates and mortality causes in 879 Spanish patients.
  • Among the patients, 15.7% died, with over half of those deaths attributed to SSc, primarily due to pulmonary hypertension.
  • Key factors affecting survival included older age at disease onset, diffuse cutaneous SSc, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and scleroderma renal crisis, which were identified as independent risk factors for mortality.

Objectives: The current knowledge of the influence of systemic sclerosis (SSc) risk loci in the clinical sub-phenotypes is still limited. The main limitation lies in the low frequency of some sub-phenotypes which could be solved by replication studies in independent cohorts and meta-analysis between studies. In this regard, CCR6 gene variants have been recently associated with anti-topoisomerase I positive (ATA+) production in SSc patients in a candidate gene study.
