Hepatocellular carcinoma risk in hepatitis C stage-3 fibrosis after sustained virological response with direct-acting antivirals.

Background & Aims: Patients with chronic hepatitis C and stage 3 fibrosis are thought to remain at risk of hepatocellular carcinoma after sustained virological response. We investigated this risk in a large cohort of patients with well-defined stage 3 fibrosis.

Methods: We performed a multicentre, ambispective, observational study of chronic hepatitis C patients with sustained virological response after treatment with direct-acting antivirals started between January and December 2015.

Tenofovir lamivudine plus adefovir in chronic hepatitis B: TENOSIMP-B study.

Aim: To demonstrate the non-inferiority (15% non-inferiority limit) of monotherapy with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) the combination of lamivudine (LAM) plus adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) in the maintenance of virologic response in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and prior failure with LAM.

Methods: This study was a Phase IV prospective, randomized, open, controlled study with 2 parallel groups (TDF and LAM+ADV) of adult patients with hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative CHB, prior failure with LAM, on treatment with LAM+ADV for at least 6 mo, without prior resistance to ADV and with an undetectable viral load at the start of the study, in 14 Spanish hospitals. The follow-up time for each patient was 48 wk after randomization, with quarterly visits in which the viral load, biochemical and serological parameters, adverse effects, adherence to treatment and consumption of hospital resources were analysed.

Long-term liver dysfunction after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation: clinical features and course in 61 patients.

This retrospective study has aimed at determining the prevalence, aetiology and clinical evolution of chronic liver disease (CLD) after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT). A total of 106 patients who had been transplanted in a single institution and who had survived for at least 2 years after BMT were studied. The prevalence of CLD was 57.

Severe autoimmune hepatitis in a chronic myeloid leukemia patient treated with interferon alpha and with complete genetic response.

A patient with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) treated with interferon alpha (IFN alpha) and who developed autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is described. The patient was treated with IFN alpha 2a, a complete cytogenetic response was achieved 5 months later, and this response has lasted now more than 7 years. Autoimmune hypothyroidism appeared at 18 months of treatment, and 1 year later severe type I autoimmune hepatitis developed.

[Acute pancreatitis in Caroli's syndrome].

Caroli's syndrome is included in the fibropolycystic abnormalities of the bile ducts. The disease is usually manifested by episodes of cholangitis. We report a case which presented as acute pancreatitis in the adulthood.

Cryoglobulinemia and cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis with hepatitis C virus infection.
