HMW SKC-EOM was rigorously characterized and described as a hydrophilic organic compound mainly comprised of polysaccharide-like structures. Projection-slice theorem: a compact notation.

The notation normally associated with the projection-slice theorem often presents difficulties for students of Fourier optics and digital image processing. Simple single-line forms of the theorem that are relatively easily interpreted can be obtained for n-dimensional functions by exploiting the convolution theorem and the rotation theorem of Fourier transform theory. The projection-slice theorem is presented in this form for two- and three-dimensional functions; generalization to higher dimensionality is briefly discussed.

Perceptions of cardiovascular health in underserved communities.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of deaths and illnesses in US adults, and the prevalence is disproportionately high in underserved populations. In this study, we assessed respondents' understanding of context-specific differences in knowledge and perceptions of disease, risk, and prevention in 6 underserved communities, with the longer-term goal of developing appropriate interventions.

Methods: Thirty-nine small-group sessions and 14 interviews yielded data from 318 adults.

Through focus groups and individual interviews, data were gathered on the emotional, informational, and instrumental support needs of 22 immigrant Latina women. A thematic analysis revealed that participants who perceived to receive social support reported less psychological distress and better adjustment to breast cancer than those who did not perceive this support. Listening to rural Hispanic immigrants in the Midwest: a community-based participatory assessment of major barriers to health care access and use.

Hispanic immigrants are increasingly residing in rural communities, including in the midwestern United States. Limitations in the ability of rural Hispanics to access and utilize health care contribute to patterns of poor health and health disparity. A conceptual model of "vulnerability" guides this community-based participatory assessment project designed to explore rural Hispanics' perceived barriers to accessing and utilizing health care.

Anastomosis of the ovarian vein to the hepatic portal vein in sheep induces ovarian hyperstimulation associated with increased LH pulsatility, but only in the absence of the contralateral ovary.

In this study, two experiments were performed, the first of which examined the ovarian response in ewes that were subject to unilateral ovariectomy (ULO) at different intervals (0-14 days) after surgical anastomosis (AN) of the ovarian vein to the mesenteric vein (n=7 ewes), or sham operation (SO; n=4 ewes). Hypertrophy and development of multiple follicular and luteal structures on AN ovaries were observed after ULO, while SO ovaries remained of normal size and appearance after ULO. The second experiment involving 11 ewes (five AN; six SO) aimed to clarify the mechanism by which AN following ULO-induced ovarian hypertrophy and increased follicle development.

We propose a straightforward method to suppress steroids from the peripheral circulation by using the liver to catabolize steroids, through an anastomosis of the ovary to the mesenteric vein.

Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. A ten year experience.

Methods: During the last ten years, 84 patients treated for ruptured infrarenal aortic aneurysm have been reviewed to evaluate complications and mortality rates, to determine which factors influenced these rates and to identify the means to improve these results.

Results: The intraoperative mortality and the overall mortality rates were respectively 21.4% and 57%.

We report the case of a 74 year-old woman presenting a rupture in the duodenum of pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysm treated with success by an aorto-mesenteric by-pass and ligature of gastroduodenal artery. The pancreaticoduodenal artery is an uncommon aneurysmal localization; surgical treatment of which is often difficult on account of the proximity of the pancreatic parenchyma and arteriography is essential to guide the surgical procedure.

We report the successful treatment of an aneurysm of the pancreatoduodenal artery which ruptured into the duodenum in a 78-year-old patient. The pancreatoduodenal arcades were excluded by aorto-mesenteric bypass and ligature of the gastroduodenal artery. Aneurysm are rarely located in pancreatoduodenal artery.

Intraovarian Doppler velocimetry in ovulatory, dysovulatory and anovulatory cycles.

We have evaluated 48 spontaneous ovarian cycles in 23 women by transabdominal Doppler ultrasound. A total of 1064 intraovarian flow velocity waveform recordings were obtained. The ultrasound assessment of follicular growth, and changes in the concentrations of urinary luteinizing hormone and serum progesterone were used to classify the cycles.

Resection and reconstruction of the carotid bifurcation with polytetrafluoroethylene grafts; operative technique. Preliminary results in 25 procedures and indications.

Although carotid endarterectomy is the standard procedure, the purpose of this paper is to describe a new surgical technique and indicate its role in the surgery of cervical cerebrovascular disease. The technique consists of resection of the pathologic carotid artery bifurcation followed by its total replacement with a bifurcated thin-wall polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft constructed by the surgeon. Prosthetic graft reconstruction of the carotid bifurcation (PGRCB) was performed in 21 patients (25 procedures) from November 1984 to May 1987.

[Changes in the ovarian flow during the menstrual cycle: an echo-Doppler study].
