Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate how well three surgical complication reporting scales (Contracted Accordion Scale, Expanded Accordion Scale, Clavien-Dindo Scale) reflect patient outcomes after cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer.
  • - Data from 892 patients who underwent surgery between 2006 and 2016 showed that those with severe complications had longer hospital stays, higher mortality rates, and delays in starting chemotherapy.
  • - The Expanded Accordion Scale and Clavien Dindo Scale were found to better characterize outcomes compared to the Contracted Accordion Scale, emphasizing the need for more detailed reporting of specific complications in ovarian cancer surgeries.

Simple Summary: Low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) represents an uncommon histotype of serous ovarian cancer (accounting for approximately 5% of all ovarian cancer) with a distinct behavior compared to its high-grade serous counterpart, characterized by a better prognosis and low response rate to chemotherapeutic agents. Similar to high-grade serous ovarian cancer, cytoreductive surgery is considered crucial for patient survival. This retrospective study aimed to analyze the outcomes of women affected by advanced stages (III-IV FIGO) of LGSOC from two high-volume oncological centers for ovarian neoplasm.

Sevoflurane, a volatile anesthetic, is used when extremely preterm neonates (EPT) undergo painful procedures. Currently, no existing studies analyze sevoflurane's long-term effects during the EPT's immediate neonatal period. Our primary objective was to compare the EPT's neurocognitive development regardless of any sevoflurane exposure prior to 45 weeks corrected gestational age (GA).

Background: Oil massage versus only massage can increase preterm newborn development, especially weight gain, via a supposed percutaneous absorption of oil lipids, but data are contradictory. Aims: Investigating whether massage with a vegetable oil balanced in essential fatty acids improves neonatal weight gain, and digestive autonomy as proxy for neuro-development outcomes. Methods: A prospective monocentric randomized study was conducted in very premature newborns who received massage with oil (isio4 10 mL/kg/day, n = 18) versus with no oil (n = 18) for five consecutive days (10-min session twice daily) at a corrected gestational age of 34−35 weeks.

Premature birth is a worldwide public health priority. One in ten children is born before 37 weeks of gestational age and, in developed countries, survival rates without major neonatal morbidity are increasing. Although severe sequelae associated with these births have decreased, their neurobehavioral difficulties, often associated in multiple fields, remain stable but still widespread.

Background: Avulsion fracture of the coracoclavicular ligament accompanied by upward displacement of the medial fragment of the clavicle represents a unique fracture pattern, first described by Latarjet and colleagues in 1975. Due to the function of the underlying articulations and the ligaments found in the area, this fracture pattern results in a combination of horizontal and vertical instability that must be taken into consideration when treating. Several surgical techniques have been proposed but none has been proven superior.

Background: High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is a major unmet need in oncology. The remaining uncertainty on its originating tissue has hampered the discovery of molecular oncogenic pathways and the development of effective therapies.

Methods: We used an approach based on the retention in tumors of a DNA methylation trace (OriPrint) that distinguishes the two putative tissues of origin of HGSOC, the fimbrial (FI) and ovarian surface epithelia (OSE), to stratify HGSOC by several clustering methods, both linear and non-linear.

Conserving energy amenable to the activities of occupants in public buildings is a particularly challenging objective that includes associating energy consumption to particular individuals and providing them with incentives to alter their behavior. This paper describes a gamification framework that aims to facilitate achieving greater energy conservation in public buildings. The framework leverages IoT-enabled low-cost devices, to improve energy disaggregation mechanisms that provide energy use and-consequently-wastage information at the device, area and end-user level.
