Here, we present an effective way to synthesize a mussel-inspired adhesive from acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO), a renewable and commercially available small molecular material with a molecular weight around 1200 Da, by a one-step esterification reaction with the affordable 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHA). By taking advantages of both the double bond and the catechol moiety presented in this small molecular adhesive, a short curing time was achieved with UV irradiation.
