Age-related (AR) hearing loss (HL) is the most prevalent sensorineural disorder in older adults. Here we demonstrate that rare-variants in well-established Mendelian HL genes play an important role in ARHL etiology. In all we identified 32 Mendelian HL genes which are associated with ARHL.

It has been demonstrated that for the case-only design to be valid the genetic and environmental factors must be independent in the population. Additionally, there is a rare disease assumption for the case-only design, but the impact of disease prevalence and other factors, e.

Methods: The retrospective study involved 518 patients with thoracic OVCF treated at our hospital, among whom those with and without intercostal neuralgia were matched at a 1:1 ratio.Relevant basic clinical data and imaging parameters of the patients were recorded, t-test was used for continuous variables and chi-square test for categorical variables to determine the factors associated with intercostal neuralgia.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease affecting the brain and spinal cord. Genetic studies have identified many risk loci, that were thought to primarily impact immune cells and microglia. Here, we performed a multi-ancestry genome-wide association study with 20,831 MS and 729,220 control participants, identifying 236 susceptibility variants outside the Major Histocompatibility Complex, including four novel loci.

Materials And Methods: Using various databases and tools, we identified 155 active compounds within BSTSD's herbal components. Key compounds such as eriodictyol and β-sitosterol were noted for their significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects, which are crucial for promoting fracture healing.
Correlating the bond strength with the macro strength of metals is crucial for understanding mechanical properties and designing multi-principal-element alloys (MPEAs). Motivated by the role of grain boundaries in the strength of metals, we introduce a predictive model to determine the grain-boundary energies and strength of metals from the cohesive energy and atomic radius. This scheme originates from the d-band characteristics and broken-bond spirit of tight-binding models, and demonstrates that the repulsive/attractive effects play different roles in the variation of bond strength for different metals.

However, complex electronic interactions resulting from chemical disorder prohibit the quantification of vacancy formation energy () and migration barriers (). Herein, we propose an electronic descriptor χ (electronegativity χ and valence-electron number ) to quantify the bonding strength of constituents on the basis of the tight-binding model, which allows us to build analytical models to achieve the site-to-site quantification of and .

However, influenced by external disturbances, UGV systems encounter challenges in meeting specific performance requirements, such as no overshoot and minimized chattering. In current sliding mode control (SMC) methods with disturbance observer (DOB), there still exists a serious chattering problem.

Li01 (Li01) is a probiotic known to prevent constipation in mice, while psyllium husk (PSH) is a dietary fiber with high water retention, acting as an intestinal lubricant. This study investigates the effects of a combined treatment of Li01 and PSH on mice with loperamide-induced constipation.

To this end, significant efforts have been made in developing reconfigurable multifunctional smart materials, which can exhibit remarkable behaviors such as morphing and self-healing. However, the difficulty in efficiently manipulating and controlling matter at the building block level with manageable cost and complexity, which is crucial to achieving superior responsiveness to environmental clues and stimuli, has significantly hindered the further development of such smart materials.

To address the challenge of unknown gradient information, a one-point zeroth-order gradient estimator (OPZOGE) is constructed, which can estimate the gradient based on the function value and guide the update of decision variables. Additionally, to prevent privacy leakage of agents, random noise is introduced into both the state and the gradient of the agents, which effectively enhances the level of privacy protection.

Surface-energy anisotropy of metals is crucial for the stability and structure, however, its determining factors and structure-property relationship are still elusive. Herein, we identify three key factors for predicting surface-energy anisotropy of pure metals and alloys: the surface-atom density, coordination numbers and atomic radius. We find that the coupling rules of surface geometric determinants, which determining surface-energy anisotropy of face-centred-cubic (FCC), hexagonal-close-packed (HCP) and body-centred-cubic (BCC) metals, are essentially controlled by the crystal structures instead of chemical bonds, alloying or electronic structures.

However, the development of AIIBs is significantly hindered by the limited capacity of existing cathode materials and the poor intercalation kinetic of Fe. Herein, we propose a H and Fe co-intercalation electrochemistry in AIIBs to boost the capacity and rate capability of cathode materials such as iron hexacyanoferrate (FeHCF) and NaFe(PO)(PO) (NFPP).
