It seems difficult to continue to employ expectant/breastfeeding mothers in interventional medical fields due to numerous risks involved, such as in handling infectious agents or anaesthetic gases. Pregnancy for female doctors is thus often associated with a ban on employment and is therefore synonymous with a delay in their professional career. The aim of this article was to develop a positive list that allows pregnant women to continue working during their pregnancy at low risk and provides employers with a guide for drawing up risk assessment for specific occasions.

Upper Limb Casting Application Post-Botulinum Toxin Injection for Elbow Spasticity: A Guided Casting Protocol.

Casting is an effective adjunctive treatment, which increases the effects of botulinum toxin on patients with spasticity. The evidence for casting as an adjunctive therapy post-botulinum toxin has been well documented in the literature. However, standardized casting protocols are lacking, with no published descriptions of upper limb casting application post-botulinum toxin injection for spasticity.

Fatal course of a benign mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 20-year-old woman.

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign, but highly proliferative tumor most commonly seen in early childhood. Recurrence rates are high when complete resection is unfeasible and systemic therapy is necessary. We report the case of a large, aggressive thoracic and mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 20-year-old woman, which was surgically not resectable.

Effect of treating elbow flexor spasticity with botulinum toxin injection and adjunctive casting on hemiparetic gait parameters: A prospective case series.

Objective: To investigate changes in hemiparetic gait parameters after treatment of elbow flexor spasticity with botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) injection and adjunctive casting.

Design: Prospective case series.

Subjects: Ten participants with spasticity secondary to acquired brain injury (8 stroke, 2 traumatic brain injury).

A wide variety of drugs and substances have the potential to damage the respiratory system by different mechanisms. Clofazimine is an anti-leprosy drug that is normally only prescribed for a few years. It has a very long half-life, and crystalline deposition of the drug in various tissues has been documented.

Does casting after botulinum toxin injection improve outcomes in adults with limb spasticity? A systematic review.

Objective: To determine current evidence for casting as an adjunct therapy following botulinum toxin injection for adult limb spasticity.

Design: The databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for English language studies from 1990 to August 2018. Full-text studies using a casting protocol following botulinum toxin injection for adult participants for limb spasticity were included.

Prevention of leakage due to mouth opening through applying an oral shield device (Sominpax™) during nasal CPAP therapy of patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

Background/objective: The first line treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP), for which a variety of masks are available. While nasal masks (NM) are the first choice; oronasal masks (ONM) are also frequently used to prevent mouth dryness resulting from mouth opening. Our cross-sectional, prospective, randomized, un-blinded study addressed the efficacy of wearing an oral shield in addition to NM in preventing mouth leakage METHODS: Patients with OSA and established therapy using NM and complaining about mouth dryness (n = 29) underwent three polysomnographies (PSGs) using NM, ONM or a nose mask in combination with an oral shield (NMS).

Results of plate fixation for humerus fractures in a large single-center cohort.

Introduction: This study aims to describe the results of plate fixation in one of the largest single-center cohorts that employs plate fixation as the golden standard. Additionally, risk factors related to a negative outcome were identified.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of all patients treated for a humeral shaft fracture in a level-one trauma center between January 2010 and December 2017 with a mean follow-up of 1 year.

Absolute or relative stability in plate fixation for simple humeral shaft fractures.

Introduction: Minimal invasive plating (MIPO) techniques for humeral shaft fractures appear to have fewer complications and higher union rates compared to open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). It is questionable if this also applies to simple humeral shaft fractures, as simple fractures are generally treated with absolute stability which cannot be obtained with MIPO. This raises the question whether biology or biomechanics is more important in fracture healing.

Practical clinical expertise is a crucial part of medical professionalism. Several studies have shown that medical students are poorly trained in practical skills during their undergraduate training. Even the students rated their own expertise in practical skills as poor.

Fecal calprotectin: a marker for clinical differentiation of microscopic colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Background: The aim of this study is to compare two methods for measuring fecal calprotectin (FC) concentration and to evaluate the possibility of differentiation between microscopic colitis (MC) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Methods: Twenty-three patients with MC (six patients with active disease and 17 patients retested in remission) and 20 patients with IBS were prospectively included in this study. Active disease state of MC was determined by clinical symptoms of >3 bowel movements per day and histological correlate.
