Background: The ion shift index (ISI) as a prognostic indicator that can show the severity of hypoxic-ischemic injury. We aimed to evaluate the performance of the ISI in predicting unfavorable neurological outcomes at hospital discharge in cardiac arrest (CA) patients following extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) and to compare its performance to other prognostic predictors.

Methods: This was a retrospective observational study including adult CA patients treated with ECPR between January 2018 and December 2022 in a tertiary hospital.

Purpose: To investigate the spontaneous brain activity alterations in survivors of cardiac arrest (CA) with good neurological outcome using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) with amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) methods.

Materials And Methods: Thirteen CA survivors with favorable neurological outcomes and 13 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited and underwent rs-fMRI scans. The ALFF and ReHo methods were applied to assess the regional intensity and synchronization of spontaneous brain activity.

Background: To assess the association between relevant brain computed tomography (CT) parameters at different time and neurological prognosis in adult comatose survivors after cardiac arrest (CA).

Methods: A total of 94 CA patients who underwent early and late CT scans (within 24 h and 24 h to 7 d respectively after CA) between January 2018 and April 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study. According to the Cerebral Performance Category (CPC) score at hospital discharge, the patients were divided into either a good outcome (CPC 1-2) group or a poor-outcome group (CPC 3-5).

Objectives: To establish and validate a prognostic scoring model in a Chinese population to predict the neurological outcome among comatose survivors of cardiac arrest (CA).

Methods: 159 CA patients between January 2016 and November 2020 were recruited in this retrospective study. In the derivation cohort, prognostic factors available from arrest circumstances and early in-hospital indicators were measured.

Background: Recent studies suggested that the gray-white matter ratio (GWR) determined from brain computed tomography (CT) scans may be a reliable predictor of poor neurological outcomes. The aim of study was to evaluate the association between the GWR and the outcomes in adult comatose cardiac arrest (CA) survivors in Chinese.

Methods: A total of 58 CA patients who had CT scans within 72 h of resuscitation between January 2011 and December 2015 were included in this single-center retrospective study.

Background: This meta-analysis aimed to determine whether extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR), compared with conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR), improves outcomes in adult patients with cardiac arrest (CA).

Data Resources: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and China Biological Medicine Database were searched for relevant articles. The baseline information and outcome data (survival, good neurological outcome at discharge, at 3-6 months, and at 1 year after CA) were collected and extracted by two authors.

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of spleen is a benign lesion with a distinct morphological and immunohisochemical characteristics. Only Weinred I et al (Virchow Arch 451: 73-9, 2007) reported 6 cases of SANT expressing CD30, of which positive for EBV by in situ hybridization (EBER). 4 cases of SANT were added to investigate the clinicopathological features and focused on the expression of CD30 and EBER combined with the previously published literature.

It has not been reported that cases of alcoholic cardiomyopathy (ACM) combined with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). We hereby present a case of a 48-year-old male with ACM with significant enlargement of the heart and heart failure is described. Then, the patient was seized with acute PE which was confirmed by specific examination and his symptoms.

Objective: To explore the effects of various left anterior descending (LAD) artery-blocked sites on the development of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and malignant arrhythmia in a swine model.

Methods: Twenty-two pigs underwent occlusion of the coronary artery with balloon angioplasty were randomly divided into three groups according to the blocked site of the balloon: middle-site-blocked LAD group, bottom-third-blocked LAD group and control group. Then, the development of AMI and malignant arrhythmia, including ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation during the process of model creation, were recorded.

Objectives: Serum cystatin C has been established as a predictor of cardiovascular events. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of cystatin C in determining the presence and the severity of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Design And Methods: A total of 936 subjects without overt renal disease were included in this cross-sectional study.

Pediatric restrictive cardiomyopathy is rare and most commonly idiopathic in origin. Here, we applied a candidate gene approach and identified a missense mutation in the cardiac troponin I gene in a 12-year-old Chinese girl with restrictive cardiomyopathy. This study indicates that mutation in sarcomere protein genes may play an important role in idiopathic pediatric restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Previous studies have indicated that the arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein (ALOX5AP) gene SG13S114 polymorphism is associated with risk of ischemic stroke (IS), but the results remain inconclusive even in Chinese population. A meta-analysis of 10 case-control studies was conducted on the relationship between ALOX5AP SG13S114 polymorphism and susceptibility to IS in Chinese population published domestically and abroad from September 2007 to December 2012. Data were extracted by two authors and pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated.

Background: Genetic variations of the 5-lipoxygenase activating protein and leukotriene A4 hydrolase genes that confer an increased risk of ischemic stroke have implicated the family of leukotrienes as potential mediators of ischemic stroke. This study aimed to explore the association of ALOX5, LTA4H and LTC4S gene polymorphisms with ischemic stroke risk in a cohort of Chinese in east China.

Methods: This case-control study consisted of 690 patients with ischemic stroke and 690 controls.

This study was aimed to explore the association of genetic variation in members of the leukotrienes biosynthesis pathway as potential mediators with ischemic stroke (IS) risk in Eastern Han Chinese. A case-control study of was conducted with five selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In the single-locus analysis, carriers of C allele of rs730012 in LTC4S were more susceptible to IS (OR, 1.

Background: MicroRNAs (MiRNA) are a novel class of non-coding RNAs involved in the regulation of gene expression post-transcriptionally by cleavage or translational repression of their specific target miRNAs. Numerous studies have demonstrated that circulating miRNAs are stable and abundant in blood and aberrantly expressed under pathological conditions, including cardiovascular diseases. The implications of circulating miRNAs in acute myocardial infarction have recently been recognized.

Variants of the arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein (ALOX5AP) gene have been suggested to play an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke. This study was aimed to explore the association of ALOX5AP variants with ischemic stroke risk in Han Chinese of eastern China. A total of 690 ischemic stroke cases and 767 controls were recruited.

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity of vascular diseases, and its incidence maintains at a high level around the world. In China, stroke has been a major public health problem. Because the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke is different from that of hemorrhagic stroke, their clinical factors would not be the same.
