Layered sodium-ion oxides hold considerable promise in achieving high-performance sodium-ion batteries. However, the notorious phase transformation during charging, attributed to increased O─O repulsion, results in substantial performance decay. Here, a hierarchical layer modification strategy is proposed to stabilize interlayer repulsion.

Article Synopsis
  • Photocatalytic ammonia production is gaining attention over the traditional Haber-Bosch process due to its lower energy use and sustainable nature.
  • The study focuses on how MoO·0.55HO exhibits improved nitrogen reduction reactions compared to α-MoO, thanks to its structural differences that create more active sites for nitrogen adsorption.
  • MoO·0.55HO achieved an ammonia production rate of 88.6 μmol·g under visible light, outperforming α-MoO by 4.6 times, highlighting its potential for efficient photocatalytic applications.

In this work, Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) are prepared by a simple solvothermal method, in which acetic acid/N, N-dimethylformamide (HAc/DMF) mixture solvents are employed to regulate the particle morphology, exposed facets and ligand defects. At HAc/DMF = 0/50, 5/45 and 8/42 (volume ratio), the irregular particles (MIL-53(Fe)), elongated icosahedrons (5H-MIL-101(Fe)) and icosahedrons (8H-MIL-101(Fe)) are obtained, respectively. Under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm) and the addition of sodium persulfate (PS), 5H-MIL-101(Fe) shows the highest degradation activity for tetracycline (TC).
