The heterogeneity of the whole-exome sequencing (WES) data generation methods present a challenge to a joint analysis. Here we present a bioinformatics strategy for joint-calling 20,504 WES samples collected across nine studies and sequenced using ten capture kits in fourteen sequencing centers in the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project. The joint-genotype called variant-called format (VCF) file contains only positions within the union of capture kits.

In the present study, carbon cloth (CC) was functionalized using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and employed as an excellent bioanode for improving defluoridation efficiency, wastewater treatment, and power output from a microbial desalination cell (MDC). The Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of DMSO modified carbon cloth (CC) confirmed the functionalization of CC, and the water drop contact angle of 0° ensured its superior hydrophilicity. The presence of -COOH (carboxyl), S[bond, double bond]O (sulfoxide) and -C[bond, double bond]O (carbonyl) functional groups on CC aids in enhancing the performance of the MDC.

Unlabelled: The present study uses various statistical tools to understand the behaviour of PM and PM in the Kanjikode industrial area of Southern India. Annual PM and PM average concentrations in 2018-2020 were three times more than the World Health Organization-specified standards (5 and 15 µg m). The statistical distribution analysis suggested well-fitted lognormal and gamma distributions of 24-h average PM concentrations and gamma distributions of 24-h average PM concentrations.

The determination of neurotransmitters and adrenoreceptor drugs is highly essential due to their specific functions in the human body. In this work, the determination of carvedilol (CAR) and dopamine (DA) was carried out using carbon cloth (CC), which was modified using a facile strategy of drop-casting dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). This induced the formation of functional groups without any loss in the structural integrity of CC.

Querying massive functional genomic and annotation data collections, linking and summarizing the query results across data sources/data types are important steps in high-throughput genomic and genetic analytical workflows. However, these steps are made difficult by the heterogeneity and breadth of data sources, experimental assays, biological conditions/tissues/cell types and file formats. FILER (FunctIonaL gEnomics Repository) is a framework for querying large-scale genomics knowledge with a large, curated integrated catalog of harmonized functional genomic and annotation data coupled with a scalable genomic search and querying interface.

Recent advancements on the development of nonprecious electrocatalysts with iron (Fe) incorporated active centers have generated confidence on realizing cost-effective proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). However, most of these catalysts that emerged as a substitution for the platinum supported on carbon (Pt/C) catalysts in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are active under basic conditions, and their feasibility in PEMFCs remains as a challenge. In this scenario, this work reports the synthesis of a Pt-free oxygen reduction electrocatalyst prepared by the annealing of polydopamine grown melamine foam.

Summary: We report Spark-based INFERence of the molecular mechanisms of NOn-coding genetic variants (SparkINFERNO), a scalable bioinformatics pipeline characterizing non-coding genome-wide association study (GWAS) association findings. SparkINFERNO prioritizes causal variants underlying GWAS association signals and reports relevant regulatory elements, tissue contexts and plausible target genes they affect. To achieve this, the SparkINFERNO algorithm integrates GWAS summary statistics with large-scale collection of functional genomics datasets spanning enhancer activity, transcription factor binding, expression quantitative trait loci and other functional datasets across more than 400 tissues and cell types.

Ni- and Co-based materials have of late gained prominence over conventional noble metal-based ones as catalysts for energy devices. Here, a high performance catalyst which can facilitate both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was developed by anchoring a NiCoO nanowire array on a carbon nanotube sponge (NCS). The three-dimensional morphology of NCS ensured efficient transport of the reactants and products on the catalyst surface, thereby improving the activity of the material.
