Constraining tectonic uplift and advection from the main drainage divide of a mountain belt.

One of the most conspicuous features of a mountain belt is the main drainage divide. Divide location is influenced by a number of parameters, including tectonic uplift and horizontal advection. Thus, the topography of mountain belts can be used as an archive to extract tectonic information.

Depth-driven variable-frequency sinusoidal fringe pattern for accuracy improvement in fringe projection profilometry.

Sinusoidal fringe pattern is widely used in optical profilometry; however, the traditional constant-frequency sinusoidal fringe pattern reduces 3D measurement accuracy in the defocus region. To this end, this paper presents a variable-frequency sinusoidal fringe pattern method that is optimized by the measurement depth. The proposed method improves the pixel matching accuracy and thus increases measurement accuracy.

Preparation, physicochemical characterization and release behavior of the inclusion complex of trans-anethole and β-cyclodextrin.

Trans-anethole (AT) has a variety of antimicrobial properties and is widely used as food functional ingredient. However, the applications of AT are limited due to its low water solubility, strong odor and low physicochemical stability. Therefore, the aim of this work was to encapsulate AT with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) for obtaining inclusion complex by co-precipitation method.

Isolation and characterization of phenanthrene-degrading Sphingomonas paucimobilis strain ZX4.

Phenanthrene-degrading bacterium strain ZX4 was isolated from an oil-contaminated soil, and identified as Sphingomonas paucimobilis based on 16S rDNA sequence, cellular fatty acid composition, mol% G + C and Biolog-GN tests. Besides phenanthrene, strain ZX4 could also utilize naphthalene, fluorene and other aromatic compounds. The growth on salicylic acid and catechol showed that the strain degraded phenanthrene via salicylate pathway, while the assay of catechol 2,3-dioxygenase revealed catechol could be metabolized through meta-cleavage pathway.

Mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy in calves cloned by using adult somatic cell.

Adult somatic cell cloned calves were produced by somatic cell nuclear transfer prepared by fusion of cultured ear fibroblast from a Holstein cow into enucleated oocytes of Luxi Yellow cow. In order to determinate the source of mitochondrial DNA of cloned calves, we designed the breed-specific PCR primers by aligning the known D-loop sequences of Bos taurus and analyzed the displacement loop sequences of five live cloned calves by breed-specific primers PCR. The results demonstrated that mtDNA originated from Holstein breed and that from Luxi breed co-exist in all five live calves.
