Acne keloidalis nuchae (AKN) is a rare dermatological condition primarily observed in men of African descent. We present a remarkable case of AKN in a 38-year-old Caucasian non-Hispanic woman with metabolic syndrome and autoimmune thyroiditis. After appropriate treatment during the one-year follow-up (including oral antibiotics, insulin sensitizers, levothyroxine, spironolactone and liraglutide), the patient demonstrated a visible reduction in plaque size and improvement of overall symptoms.

Topsoil and grass samples from 14 sites located in different distances from three copper mining factories and a copper smelter were collected in Srednogorie, Bulgaria. The paper discusses results of studies on the mobility of potentially toxic elements (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) from contaminated soils to wild grass Cynodon dactylon in terms of transfer (TF: soil to plant) and phytoavailability (PF: EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid)-soluble to plant) factors. Soils located close to mine and smelter factories were heavily contaminated by As and Cu reaching levels up to 500 mg/kg and 2400 mg/kg, respectively for As and Cu.

This study investigated the effects of cadmium (Cd) and monensin on spleen function in mice, subjected to subacute Cd-intoxication. Adult male ICR mice were divided into three groups (n = 6 per group) as follows: control group (received distilled water and food ad libitum); Cd-treated (20 mg/kg/b.w.

This study investigates the ability of Aspergillus niger resting cells entrapped into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) network to remove Cu(II) and Cd(II) from single ions solutions. The performance of free and immobilized biosorbent was evaluated by equilibrium and kinetic studies. The PVA-immobilized fungal biosorbent removed Cu(II) and Cd(II) rapidly and efficiently with maximum metal removal capacities of 34.

This work reports on a study of the biosorption of copper and cobalt, both singly and in combination (in equimolar concentrations), by the resting cells of Penicillium brevicompactum. Equilibrium batch sorption studies were carried out at 30 degrees C and pH 5.0 for a contact time of 1 hour to guarantee that equilibrium was reached.
