Introduction: Distal femur fractures present significant surgical challenges due to their complex anatomy and limited soft tissue coverage. Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional open techniques, aiming to reduce soft-tissue damage while maintaining stable fixation, particularly when used with locking plates.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 40 consecutive patients with distal femur fractures treated with MIPO and locking plates.

Evidence from homogeneous liquid or flat-plate cultures indicates that biochemical cues are the primary modes of bacterial interaction with their microenvironment. However, these systems fail to capture the effect of physical confinement on bacteria in their natural habitats. Bacterial niches like the pores of soil, mucus, and infected tissues are disordered microenvironments with material properties defined by their internal pore sizes and shear moduli.

Firecrackers are a vital element of cultural festivities that happen worldwide. However, the hazardous by-products they emit have a significant impact on environmental pollution, leading to the greenhouse effect and climate change. Aluminium powder serves as the fuel in the traditional flash powder mixture, nitrate of potassium serves as an oxidizing agent, and sulphur acts as the igniter at exact concentrations.

Connectomics is a neuroscience paradigm focused on noninvasively mapping highly intricate and organized networks of neurons. The advent of neuroimaging has led to extensive mapping of the brain functional and structural connectome on a macroscale level through modalities such as functional and diffusion MRI. In parallel, the healthcare field has witnessed a surge in the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence for diagnostics, especially in imaging.

Objective: To compare the outcomes between those who held or continued antiplatelet or anticoagulation therapy (APAC) for holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients on APAC who underwent HoLEP between January 2021 and August 2023 by a single surgeon at a high-volume center. APAC was further categorized to the specific medication: clopidogrel, apixaban, warfarin, rivaroxaban.

Background: Cerebrovascular accident (CVA), also commonly known as stroke, is an acute condition characterized by jeopardized perfusion of the brain tissue. Atherosclerosis is a common converging point for the various risk factors for CVA. It is a chronic, evolving condition of the vessel wall characterized by peculiar lesions known as atheromas.

We develop an efficient three-stage algorithm for simulating multiple acoustic scattering by two-dimensional configurations comprising large numbers of penetrable scatterers. Our approach is based on a boundary integral equation reformulation of the Helmholtz transmission partial differential equation, and a reduction of the boundary integral system for computationally efficient evaluation of wave interactions between scatterers. A key ingredient of our algorithm is to represent the interactions between scatterers using expansions of cylindrical wavefunctions.

Background: Intussusception in adults is a rare condition characterized by a low incidence, which complicates the establishment of standardized management protocols unlike those readily available for pediatric cases. This study presents a case series from our institution alongside a systematic review of existing literature. The objective is to delineate effective management strategies for adult intussusception.

Introduction: Laparoscopic Whipple's pancreaticoduodenectomy (WPD) is one of the most advanced minimally invasive procedures. In recent years, with advancements in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic WPD has been increasingly adopted as a safe and feasible technique. This study aims to compare the short-term and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic WPD to open WPD in resectable ampullary, periampullary and head of pancreas malignancies.

Particulate contamination, the unintentional presence of particles in parenteral fluids, is associated with potential risks such as phlebitis and thrombophlebitis. Recent guidelines recommend the use of filter needles when withdrawing parenteral fluid from vials with a rubber stopper. However, the literature is limited and lacks clarity regarding the advantages of filter needles over conventional needles.

Support groups and meetings are self-help gatherings that provide a unique sense of community, unconditional acceptance, and information on cancer and its treatment. This cross-sectional study examined 12 outpatient meetings within the Kerala model of palliative care, a community-based service provided to patients irrespective of disease, stage, or prognosis starting from the time of diagnosis. The study focused on the pivotal role of community nurses in facilitating these meetings, with participants including cancer patients and survivors.

Estimated GFR (eGFR) is calculated using serum creatinine (SCr) based equations which have their own limitations. Novel biomarkers like beta trace protein (BTP) are studied for eGFR estimation. The aim of this study is to determine the serum levels of BTP in healthy controls and chronic kidney disease (CKD) cases and to find out the correlation of BTP levels with that of SCr and SCr-based eGFR formulas.

We previously reported that chitosan nanoparticle-encapsulated Naringenin (CS-NPs/NAR) could scavenge free radicals at lower doses and be cytotoxic to cancer cells. The current study continues to focus on the mechanism behind CS-NPs/NAR-induced breast cancer cell (MDA-MB-231) death. MDA-MB-231 cells were treated with higher concentrations (100, 200, and 200 µg) of Chitosan nanoparticles (CS-NPs), naringenin (NAR), and chitosan-encapsulated naringenin (CS-NPs/NAR).

We report two photonic crystal-perovskite nanocrystal microbead hybrids with photoluminescence matching that of the parent nanocrystals but with increased photoluminescence quantum yields. Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy quantifies the radiative enhancement afforded by the photonic environment of the microbeads. The reported hybrids also demonstrate markedly better resistance to degradation in water over 30 days of immersion.

The proper disposal of disposable synthetic plastic food packaging materials presents a significant challenge for both the environment and the solid waste management community. To address this issue, an antibacterial-based high-strength bio-composite serves as the optimal alternative to conventional packaging materials. This study aims to produce a hybrid material of AgNPs-carboxyl cellulose nanocrystals (AgNPs-CCNCs), obtained from used egg carton boxes (UECBs), through bio acid hydrolysis and an in-situ generation process.

Although cells cultured in three-dimensional (3D) platforms are proven to be beneficial for studying cellular behavior in settings similar to their physiological state, due to the ease, convenience, and accessibility, traditional 2D culturing approaches are widely adopted. Jammed microgels are a promising class of biomaterials extensively suited for 3D cell culture, tissue bioengineering, and 3D bioprinting. However, existing protocols for fabricating such microgels either involve complex synthesis steps, long preparation times, or polyelectrolyte hydrogel formulations that sequester ionic elements from the cell growth media.
