Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is a serious condition resulting from chronic alcohol use, necessitating prompt recognition and evaluation, particularly in emergency settings.
A study assessed the effectiveness of a short-scale tool called the AST (Anxiety, Sweats, Tremors) among patients diagnosed with AWS, comparing it to two established assessment scales, CIWA-Ar and GMAWS.
Results indicated that the AST scale has similar diagnostic reliability and performance, making it a practical and efficient option for evaluating severe AWS in clinical environments.
