Introduction: As China is scaling up tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT) for people living with HIV (PLHIV) in its national programmes, the objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and performance of 6-month regimen of isoniazid monotherapy (6H) in terms of preventive therapy acceptance, adherence, effectiveness and outcomes in minority areas with a high burden of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS.

Method: A prospective observational cohort study was initiated among 461 PLHIV in Butuo County after ruling out active TB (ATB) and followed up for up to 3 years to collect incidence events in real-world settings. TB incidence and protective rates were calculated.

Up to half of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, for which effective treatment options are lacking, resulting in a poor prognosis. Over the past few years, the combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors and anti-angiogenic targeted therapy has proven highly efficacious in treating advanced HCC, significantly extending patients' survival and providing a potential for sequential curative surgery. After sequential curative hepatectomy or liver transplantation following conversion therapy, patients can receive long-term survival benefits.

Data is the core foundation of intelligent operation and maintenance, but currently, there is generally insufficient data for wastewater treatment plants, and the status of wastewater treatment systems dynamically evolves with the changes in the internal and external environment. The intelligent operation and maintenance of wastewater plants face difficulties in modeling and model drift caused by system evolution. In response to this issue, the summer and winter seasons with significant differences in wastewater temperature, wastewater quality, and microbial status were selected as typical comparison scenarios.

Taking a sewage treatment plant in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, as an example, the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated in the sewage treatment system were calculated using the carbon balance method and the emission factor method. The environmental impacts and economic aspects of different treatment units in wastewater treatment plants were analyzed using life cycle assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and data envelopment analysis models, and emission reduction pathways were proposed. The results indicated that the total GHG emissions (in terms of CO) from a certain municipal wastewater treatment plant in Suzhou were 6 653.

Exploring the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics of land use carbon emissions and their influencing factors is of great significance for the optimization of land use structure, the formulation of emission reduction policies, and the development of a regional low-carbon economy. Based on land cover and energy consumption data, a multi-parameter land use carbon emission accounting system was constructed to calculate land use carbon emissions in Shandong Province. Moreover, the spatial-temporal evolution and influencing factors of land use carbon emissions were analyzed based on the Gini coefficient and logarithmic mean Divisia index.

Carbon black nanoparticles (CBNPs) are ubiquitous in our daily ambient environment, either resulting from tobacco combustion or constituting the core of PM. Despite the potential risk of trafficking CBNPs to the fetus, the underlying toxicity of nano-sized carbon black particles in the placenta remains unambiguous. Pregnant C57BL/6 mice received intratracheal instillation of 30 nm or 120 nm CBNPs.

To investigate the effects of β-carotene on the gelling and digestion properties of surimi gels and the underlying molecular mechanisms, the gel properties, moisture distribution, rheological properties, secondary structure and microstructure were determined at different β-carotene concentrations (0 % ∼ 0.1 %). The results indicated that β-carotene levels from 0.

Phenylarsonic acid (PAA) compounds, widely used in animal husbandry, pose a considerable environmental threat owing to their potential transformation into toxic inorganic arsenic species. To efficiently decontaminate PAA and adsorb secondary As(V), a hybrid CuFeO-modified carbon nanotube (CuFeO-CNT) filter was developed in this study. The hybrid CuFeO-CNT filter functioned as an effective catalyst, convective filtration medium, electrode, and adsorbent.

Objective: Citrullinated vimentin (cVIM) triggers the immune response and is the primary autoantigen of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Ginsenoside compound K (CK), which exerts significant anti-inflammatory effects, was the objective of this study. We aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of CK in regulating presentation of citrullinated peptides.

The relationship between air pollution exposure and non-allergic rhinitis (NAR) risk in children is underexplored and uncertain. Therefore, the impact of numerous air pollutants on the incidence of NAR in a Chinese pediatric population were investigated. Data on daily outpatient visits for NAR among children aged 0-18 years from 2015 to 2021 were obtained from Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital.

Cadmium (Cd) is a prevalent environmental pollutant in agricultural ecosystems, particularly within paddy ecosystems, is readily absorbed by rice and enter herbivorous insects through the food chain, thereby influencing the implementation of integrated pest management strategies. However, the effect and mechanisms of Cd exposure on the sensitivity of pests in paddy to insecticides remain unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of Cd exposure on the fitness, insecticide sensitivity and symbiotic bacteria of Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) (white-backed planthopper, WBPH).

Diabetic liver injury (DLI) refers to liver injury resulting from prolonged chronic hyperglycemia and represents a significant complication associated with diabetes, The specific pathogenic mechanism of DLI remains incompletely understood. Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) has been demonstrated to play a crucial role in diabetic complications through intricate signalling pathways, including pyroptosis. However, it remains uncertain whether TNF-α mediates pyroptosis in DLI, we initially established an in vitro model of DLI and confirmed the presence of an inflammatory state characterized by TNF-α in DLI.

As cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence and mortality rates continue to rise in China, the importance of identifying and managing CVD risk factors grows. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent sleep-related breathing disorder, affecting an estimated 936 million individuals aged 30-69 worldwide, with China leading globally with about 176 million affected. Increasing research indicates a close association between OSA and the onset and progression of various CVD, significantly affecting outcomes.

The decline in eggshell quality with increasing hen age may be related to changes in ultrastructure and chemical composition, with matrix proteins playing key roles in these changes. However, research on blue-shelled eggs remains limited. This study investigated the effects of hen age (35, 55, 75, and 85 weeks) on the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of eggshells in the Xinyang blue-shelled laying hens, as well as their ultrastructural and nanostructural characteristics.

Chickens are vital economic poultry and serve as exemplary models for avian research. The incomplete reference genome of chickens and the limited availability of full-length cDNA impede the identification of alternatively spliced transcripts, thereby delaying many fundamental chicken studies. We utilized PacBio Iso-seq technology on various chicken tissues, obtaining 170,162 full-length transcripts through comprehensive transcriptome sequencing and annotation.

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) constitutes a significant threat to poultry health worldwide, causing colibacillosis and inflicting substantial economic losses. The ability to resist serum-mediated killing is a key virulence factor enabling APEC to circumvent the host immune system and establish systemic infection. In this study, we employed mariner-based transposon mutagenesis to generate a mutant library of APEC strain E058 and screened for mutants with reduced serum resistance.

Introduction: The stress response maintains the homeostasis of the body's internal environment and normal physiological activities, involving several neuroendocrine systems, such as the HPA axis, the HPG axis, the endocannabinoid system, and the melatonin system. However, studies on the intricate interactions among the four neuroendocrine systems are lacking, and it is not clear how these interactions are affected by demographic variables. The aim of this study was to investigate the network characteristics of hormonal networks comprising nine hormones from four neuroendocrine systems and how they were affected by demographic variables.
