[Primary pyomyositis. Review of 32 cases diagnosed by ultrasound].

Primary pyomyositis is a bacterial infection of striated muscle which is acquired by hematogenous route. It is related to risk factors such as HIV/aids and other immuno suppressing diseases, and can be associated with local muscle stress factors. The most frequent etiology is Staphylococcus aureus.

[Tenosynovitis due to Chikungunya virus].

We report the case of a man from Dominican Republic who consulted for a tenosynovitis of the right middle finger extensor; in the immediate convalescence second febrile curve, after 48 hours of no symptoms of an acute febrile illness, with marked fatigue, itchy rash, polyarthralgia, functional impairment and general stiffness. Biochemical tests did not provide useful data for diagnosis. Dengue virus serology was negative.

Molecular identification of protozoa causing AIDS-associated cholangiopathy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Background: Several species of microsporidia and coccidia are protozoa parasites responsible for cholan-giopathy disease in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The goals of this work were to identift opportunistic protozoa by molecular methods and describe the clinical manifestations at the gastrointestinal tract and the biliary system in patients with AIDS-associated cholangiopathy from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Material And Methods: This study included 11 adult HIV-infected individuals with diagnosis ofAIDS- associated cholangiopathy.

Soft tissue abscess and lymphadenitis due to Mycobacterium avium complex as an expression of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome after a second scheme of highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is an atypical and unexpected reaction related to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients. IRIS includes an atypical response to an opportunistic pathogen (generally Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium complex, cytomegalovirus and herpes varicella-zoster), in patients responding to HAART with a reduction of plasma viral load and evidence of immune restoration based on increase of CD4+ T-cell count. We reported a case of a patient with AIDS which, after a first failure of HAART, developed a subcutaneous abscess and supraclavicular lymphadenitis as an expression of IRIS due to Mycobacterium avium complex after starting a second scheme of HAART.

Primary liver AIDS-related lympoma.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) are the second most frequent malignancies in AIDS patients. The majority of NHL associated with AIDS involves extranodal sites, especially the digestive tract and the central nervous system. Primary liver lymphoma (PLL) is an uncommon neoplasm among these patients.

Prevalence of hepatitis viruses in an anti-human immunodeficiency virus-positive population from Argentina. A multicentre study.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the prevalence of infections with hepatotrophic viruses in an anti-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive population from Buenos Aires and to compare it among the main risk groups for HIV infection. Four hundred and eighty-four consecutive patients attending the HIV outpatients clinic were studied: 359 men and 125 women, median age 29 years (range 16-67 years); 35.5% had presented acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-defining conditions.
