The excessive buildup of neurotoxic α-synuclein plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease, highlighting the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies to promote α-synuclein clearance, particularly given the current lack of disease-modifying treatments. The glymphatic system, a recently identified perivascular fluid transport network, is crucial for clearing neurotoxic proteins. This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on the role of the glymphatic system in α-synuclein clearance and its implications for the pathology of Parkinson's disease while emphasizing potential therapeutic strategies and areas for future research.

A high security physical layer encryption scheme for dual-mode orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (DM-OFDM-IM) in magnetic induction communication is proposed. The scheme utilizes DM-OFDM-IM, where subcarriers within each subblock are divided into two groups, each modulated by distinct signal constellations. DM-OFDM-IM leverages the sequential information from the modulated constellation to transmit extra information, leading to a substantial enhancement in spectral efficiency.

Interfacial ferroelectricity emerges in non-centrosymmetric heterostructures consisting of non-polar van der Waals (vdW) layers. Ferroelectricity with concomitant Coulomb screening can switch topological currents or superconductivity and simulate synaptic response. So far, it has only been realized in bilayer graphene moiré superlattices, posing stringent requirements to constituent materials and twist angles.

Given that optical thermometers are widely used due to their unique advantages, this study aims to address critical challenges in existing technologies, such as insufficient sensitivity, limited temperature measurement ranges, and poor signal recognition capabilities. Herein, we develop a thermometer based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of Sb-doped CsNaInCl (CsNaInCl:Sb). As the temperature increases from 203 to 323 K, the thermally induced transition from triplet to singlet self-trapped excitons (STEs) leads to enhanced 455 nm photoluminescence (PL) from singlet STE recombination.

Fatigue failure poses a serious challenge for ensuring the operational safety of critical components subjected to cyclic/random loading. In this context, various machine learning (ML) models have been increasingly explored, due to their effectiveness in analyzing the relationship between fatigue life and multiple influencing factors. Nevertheless, existing ML models hinge heavily on numeric features as inputs, which encapsulate limited information on the fatigue failure process of interest.

A series of polyurethanes (PU-GT) were prepared using polyglycolide-block-polytetrahydrofuran-block-polyglycolide (PGA-PTHF-PGA), polytetrahydrofuran homopolymer (PTHF), glycerol, and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) by a one-pot synthesis method. The non-isothermal crystallization and subsequent heating curves showed that the PTHF component in these polyurethanes could crystallize in a temperature range of -11.5~2.

As global demand for clean and sustainable energy continues to rise, fuel cell technology has seen rapid advancement. However, the presence of trace impurities like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in hydrogen fuel can significantly deactivate the anode by blocking its active sites, leading to reduced performance. Developing electrocatalysts that are resistant to CO and H₂S poisoning has therefore become a critical priority.

Chronic diabetic wounds are a prevalent and severe complication of diabetes, contributing to higher rates of limb amputations and mortality. N6-methyladenosine (mA) is a common RNA modification that has been shown to regulate tissue repair and regeneration. However, whether targeting mA could effectively improve chronic diabetic wound healing remains largely unknown.

Exercise can rapidly increase core body temperature, and research has indicated that elevated internal body temperature can independently contribute to fatigue during physical activity. However, the precise mechanisms responsible for regulating thermogenesis in muscles during exercise have remained unclear. Here, we demonstrate that cellular Feimin (cFeimin) enhances exercise performance by inhibiting muscle thermogenesis during physical activity.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials that are of topical interest for their utility in water-related applications. Nevertheless, molecular-level insight into water-MOF interactions and MOF hydrolytic reactivity remains understudied. Herein, we report two hydrolytic pathways leading to either structural stability or framework decomposition of a MOF (ZnMOF-1).

Nitroaromatics, as an important member and source of nitrogen-containing aromatics, is bringing enormous economic benefits in fields of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, functional materials, fertilizers, and explosives. Nonetheless, the notoriously polluting nitration industry, which suffers from excessive discharge of fumes and waste acids, poor functional group tolerance, and tremendous purification difficulty, renders mild, efficient, and environmentally friendly nitration a formidable challenge. Herein, we develop a visible-light-driven biocompatible arene C-H nitration strategy with good efficiency and regioselectivity, marvelous substrate applicability and functional group tolerance, and wide application in scale-up synthesis, total synthesis, and late-stage functionalization.

Background/aim: Autosomal-recessive carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase deficiency (CACTD) is a rare disorder of long-chain fatty acid oxidation caused by variants in the SLC25A20 gene, leading to energy deficiency and the toxic accumulation of long-chain acylcarnitines. Under fasting conditions, most newborns with severe CACTD experience sudden cardiac arrest and hypotonia, often leading to premature death due to rapid disease progression. The genetic factors and pathogenic mechanisms in CACTD are essential for its diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

A ratiometric fluorescence-photothermal dual-mode assay method is constructed for the detection of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activity based on time-resolved levodopa (L-DOPA) cascade polymerization. First, a newly designed bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF), Eu/Co-DPA (DPA: pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid), is screened out as a fluorescent nanozyme with high catalytic activity and superior luminescence properties. In the presence of boric acid (BA), L-DOPA forms BA-esterified L-DOPA, which is catalyzed by Eu/Co-DPA to form the oligomers with strong blue fluorescence.
