Article Synopsis
  • Bleomycin, initially an antitumor drug, was researched for treating hypertrophic scars and keloids, with mixed results regarding efficacy and safety among individuals.
  • A review of various studies revealed that topical bleomycin was more effective in scar reduction compared to triamcinolone, but showed no significant differences in pigmentation and recurrence rates versus other treatments.
  • While bleomycin led to less skin atrophy and telangiectasia, it was associated with increased pain; further studies are needed for a thorough evaluation of its safety and effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • Spinocerebellar ataxia type 10 (SCA10) is a genetic disorder marked by an expansion of the (ATTCT)n repeat in the ATXN10 gene, primarily found in Native American and Asian populations.
  • Researchers discovered a common genetic marker (rs41524547-G) associated with SCA10, which is located near a miRNA gene and is largely limited to the Americas and East Asia.
  • The study suggests that this marker can help identify individuals at risk for SCA10 and supports the idea of a single ancestral origin for SCA10 expansions, possibly linked to migrations across the Bering Land Bridge.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a heterogeneous disease and is the fifth most common cancer worldwide. Lobetyolin, as a bioactive ingredient extracted from , has been reported to exert anti-tumor effects in several cancer types. This study was aimed to investigate the role of lobetyolin in GC and the associated mechanism.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a malignant tumor in males, with a majority of the cases advancing to metastatic castration resistance. Metastasis is the leading cause of mortality in PCa. The traditional early detection and prediction approaches cannot differentiate between the different stages of PCa.

It has been shown that in vivo tissues are highly crowded by proteins, nucleic acids, ribonucleoproteins, polysaccharides, etc. The following protocol applies a macromolecular crowding (MMC) technique to mimic this physiological crowding through the addition of neutral polymers (crowders) to cell cultures in vitro. Previous studies using Ficoll or dextran as crowders demonstrate that the expression of collagen I and fibronectin in WI38 and WS-1 cell lines are significantly enhanced using the MMC technique.

Background: The optimal sampling techniques for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) remain unclear and have not been standardized. The aim of this study was to compare the wet-suction and dry-suction techniques for sampling solid lesions in the pancreas, mediastinum, and abdomen.

Methods: This was a multicenter, crossover, randomized controlled trial with randomized order of sampling techniques.

is the most abundant eukaryotic microbial genus on human skin. Similar to many human-residing fungi, has high metabolic potential and secretes a plethora of hydrolytic enzymes that can potentially modify and structure the external skin environment. Here we show that the dominant secreted protease isolated from cultured is an aspartyl protease that is secreted and active at all phases of culture growth.

Aim: To determine the association of circulating miR-125a/b expression with the risk and disease severity of Crohn's disease (CD), and with inflammatory cytokines.

Methods: Plasma samples were collected from patients with active CD (A-CD), or CD in remission (R-CD) and from healthy controls (HCs). The levels of the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-17 (IL-17), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

A study had been carried out to determine Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg and Pb concentrations in the muscle and fins of four elasmobranchs species namely spot-tail sharks, milk sharks, whitespotted bamboo sharks and whitespotted guitarfish from Pulau Kambing LKIM Fishery Complex, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. Zinc level was found to have the highest concentration whereas Cd had the lowest concentration in both organs. By comparing both organs, metals concentrations in fins of all elasmobranchs species were higher than muscle.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) is a rare pancreatic neoplasm. In this study, we report the case of a 67-year-old male who was admitted with epigastric pain, which began during the previous week. The planar imaging of the magnetic resonance imaging sequence detected oval shapes in the neck and tail of the pancreas.
