Genistein is a widely studied phytoestrogen. The effects of genistein on myoblasts were reported long ago, but the conclusions are controversial. In this study, we evaluated the effects of different concentrations of genistein on C2C12 myoblasts.

In the current study, we investigated the effect of GRHL2 on cell growth and migration in NSCLC cell lines and clinical tissues. Immunohistochemical analysis of clinical NSCLC specimens revealed that patients with high GRHL2 expression were associated with poor prognosis compared to patients with low GRHL2 expression.

However, most existing methods thus far derive phenotype similarity based on the analysis of biomedical databases by using the traditional term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) formulation. This framework, though intuitive, not only ignores semantic relationships between words but also tends to produce high-dimensional vectors, and hence lacks the ability to precisely capture intrinsic semantic characteristics of biomedical documents.

Relational authenticity-which refers to subjective feelings of authenticity in a specific relationship-confers well-being; yet little is known about what gives rise to it. The present research tested competing hypotheses about the basis of relational authenticity, whether it arises from being one's actual self in a relationship (actual-relational selves overlap), ideal self (relational-ideal selves overlap), or both. A pilot study examined lay beliefs about the basis of relational authenticity.

Methods: We queried the Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (HGCR) for patients with FAP who received RT. Outcomes assessed included acute and late treatment toxicity and secondary malignancies.
In neurodegenerative diseases, seeding is a process initiated by the internalization of exogenous protein aggregates. Multiple pathways for internalization of aggregates have been proposed, including direct membrane penetration and endocytosis. To decipher the seeding mechanisms of alpha-synuclein (αS) aggregates in human cells, we visualized αS aggregation, endo-lysosome distribution, and endo-lysosome rupture in real-time.

Previous studies have shown that primary drug resistance caused by transmission also plays a role among treated cases. Differentiating the two types of drug resistance will help in developing appropriate strategies for control of drug resistant tuberculosis.

However, knowledge about the spatiotemporal dynamics of urban green space is still insufficient due to multiple challenges that remain in mapping green spaces within heterogeneous urban environments. This paper uses the city of Hangzhou to demonstrate an analysis methodology that integrates sub-pixel mapping technology and landscape analysis to fully investigate the spatiotemporal pattern and variation of hierarchical urban green space patches.

In present study, it was found that MT1M was downregulated in more than 77.1% (91/118) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues compared with adjacent non-tumor tissues.

In spite of the common agreement that such variants may disrupt biological functions of their hosting regulatory elements, it remains a great challenge to characterize the risk of a genetic variant within the implicated genome sequence. Therefore, it is essential to develop an effective computational model that is not only capable of predicting the potential risk of a genetic variant but also valid in interpreting how the function of the genome is affected with the occurrence of the variant.

Recurrent tuberculosis is an important indicator of the effectiveness of tuberculosis control and can occur by relapse or exogenous reinfection. We conducted a retrospective cohort study on all bacteriologically confirmed tuberculosis cases that were successfully treated between 2000 and 2012 in Shanghai, an urban area with a high number but a low prevalence rate of tuberculosis cases and a low prevalence of HIV infection. Genotyping the Mycobacterium tuberculosis from clinical isolates was used to distinguish between relapse and reinfection.

Metabolic reprogramming is critical for cancer cell proliferation. Glutaminolysis which provides cancer cells with bioenergetics and intermediates for macromolecular synthesis have been intensively studied in recent years. Glutaminase C (GAC) is the first and rate-limiting enzyme in glutaminolysis and plays important roles in cancer initiation and progression.

What remains unexplained is where and how initial transmissible αS aggregates form. In a previous study, we demonstrated that αS aggregates rapidly form in neurons with impaired nuclear membrane integrity due to the interaction between nuclear proaggregant factor(s) and αS and that such aggregates may serve as a source for αS seeding.

Wogonoside is the main flavonoid of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and has been found to induce growth suppression in myelogenous leukemia cells. However, its activity in T acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is still unclear. In this study, T-ALL cell lines MOLT-3 and Jurkat were exposed to different concentrations of wogonoside for 48 h, and cell viability, cell cycle distribution, and apoptosis were measured.

COMMD protein family is an evolutionarily conserved gene family implicated in a number of critical processes including inflammation, copper homeostasis, sodium balance, endosomal sorting and cancer. In an effort to profile the expression pattern of COMMD family in several non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines, we found that compared with that in human bronchial epithelial (HBE) cells, the mRNA expression levels of five COMMD genes including COMMD3, COMMD4, COMMD5, COMMD6 and COMMD8 were significantly down-regulated, whereas COMMD9 was up-regulated in NSCLC cell lines. Here we reported that the expression of COMMD9 protein was significantly increased in various NSCLC cell lines and tissue samples.

Emerging evidence suggests that receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast formation and osteoclastic bone resorption are responsible for particle-stimulated PIO. Here, we explored the effect of theaflavin-3,3'-digallate (TF3) on titanium particle-induced osteolysis in vivo and in vitro.
