The design of effective rehabilitation protocols relies on the ability to accurately assess the physical condition and the rehabilitative needs of the patient. Monitoring muscle fatigue can increase the usability of rehabilitative and restorative devices as it helps avoiding premature tiring and injury of patients whose resistance is already compromised. In this study, we collected EMG and accelerometer data from one healthy subject during a 30-minute walk on treadmill to determine the variations of muscle activation, and gait acceleration patterns, which, however subtle, could be interpreted as early indicators of muscle fatigue.

In the present study, we conducted a reverse translational study to explore the role of platelets in modulating pre-adipocyte proliferation in mice.
Methods: Mouse pre-adipocyte cell line (3T3-L1) and human pre-adipocytes harvested from female subcutaneous fat were used.

Astaxanthin (Ast) is an effective neuroprotective and antioxidant compound used to treat Alzheimer's disease (AD); however, the underlying in vivo molecular mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, we report that Ast can activate the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway in the 8-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic mouse model of AD. Our results suggest that Ast could ameliorate the cognitive defects in APP/PS1 mice by activating the mTOR pathway.

However, although colonoscopy is recommended in many consensuses, yet no one systematic review is conducted to figure out how colonoscopy could change the incidence and mortality. In our study, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis to evaluate the association between colonoscopy screening and the incidence or mortality of CRC.

In this paper, a novel neuromorphic vision-based tactile sensing approach for robotic sorting application is proposed. This approach has low latency and low power consumption when compared to conventional vision-based tactile sensing techniques.

Valproic acid (VPA) inhibits histone deacetylase (HDAC) function and probably promotes oligodendrocyte progenitor cell (OPC) proliferation and differentiation; however, the relevant molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Here, focal demyelinating lesions (FDLs) were generated in mice by two-point stereotactic injection of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) into the corpus callosum.

NAs produce potent suppression of viral replication with a small chance of HBsAg seroclearance and a high risk of virological relapse after discontinuation. The combined therapy of NAs plus traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely accepted and has been recognized as a prospective alternative approach in China.

A neuromorphic camera (Dynamic Vision Sensor) is utilizused to observe intensity changes within the silicone membrane where the object is in contact. Three deep Long Short-Term Memory neural networks combined with convolutional layers are developed and implemented to estimate the contact force from intensity changes over time.

It remains difficult to measure and predict this carbon flux in natural conditions, especially for mature woody plants. Based on a known conceptual framework of root functional traits coordination, we proposed that root functional traits may predict root exudation.

It has been proven that converting large-scale public venues such as stadiums and exhibition centres into Fangcang shelter hospitals, which serve as hospitals for isolation, treatment and disease monitoring of patients with mild symptoms, is the most effective way to control virus transmission and reduce mortality. This paper presents some experiences learnt from treating COVID-19 in Wuhan, the first city to report the outbreak and which suffered from a shortage of emergency supplies, heavy workload among staff and a shortage of hospital beds during the early stages of the pandemic.

This study aimed to discuss the application of backpropagation (BP) neural network models in the assessment of kitchen emissions based on the exposure marker. A total of 3686 participants were recruited for the kitchen survey, and their sleep quality was measured by the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI).

Methods: The inpatient medical records of children <16 years old treated for ocular trauma between January 2007 and December 2015 were collected. The age, sex, type of trauma, cause of injury, complications and visual acuity on admission and discharge were analysed statistically.
Objective: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) results not only in gray matter damage, but also in severe white matter injury (WMI). Previous findings support hypoxic preconditioning (HP) could augment the efficacy of bone marrow stromal cell (BMSC) transplantation in a TBI mouse model. However, whether HP-treated BMSCs (H-BMSCs) could overcome remyelination failure after WMI is unclear, and the molecular mechanisms remain to be explored.

Here, we developed a diagnostic and prognostic model for colon cancer, based on expression profiles of immune-related genes and immune cell component. As a result, we found that B cell infiltration ratio, CD4 T cells, as well as immune-related genes of , , , , , , , and may be highly relevant with clinical outcome of colon cancer.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the colon and the rectum. Recently, some studies have shown that microorganisms in the gut play important roles in many chronic diseases such as UC.
Methods: To study the candidate viruses and bacteria involved in UC and to investigate the therapeutic mechanism of Quyushengxin formula (QYSX) in UC patients, metagenomic sequencing was performed on the feces from healthy donors and UC patients before and after QYSX treatment.
Background: As a common malignant tumor in the colon, colon cancer (CC) has high incidence and recurrence rates. This study is designed to build a prognostic model for CC.
Methods: The gene expression dataset, microRNA-seq dataset, copy number variation (CNV) dataset, DNA methylation dataset, and transcription factor (TF) dataset of CC were downloaded from UCSC Xena database.
Three mononuclear octahedral Co(II) complexes are reported, [Co(py)(SCN)] (), [Co(py)(Cl)]·HO (), and [Co(py)(Br)] (), that exhibit different distortions with compression () or elongation ( and ) of the axial positions. Easy plane magnetic anisotropy was confirmed by magnetic, HF-EPR, and computational studies for all complexes. Further analyses indicate that both the sign and magnitude of zero-field splitting parameters experience a significant change ( ≥ ±150 cm) by tuning of the axial and equatorial ligand field strength.

Here, we investigated the effects of nuclear PDK1 on growth, migration and invasion in human BC cells.
Main Methods: The sub-cellular localization of PDK1 in BC cells was performed with subcellular fractionation followed by Western blot and immunofluorescence.
Non-traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is clinically a devastating and progressive disease without an effective treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation has been used to treat ONFH in early stage, but the failure rate of this therapy is high due to the reduced osteogenic differentiation and migration of the transplanted MSCs related with pathological bone tissues. However, the mechanism responsible for this decrease is still unclear.

Methods: A total of 754 participants, including 97 patients with AD, 50 patients with aMCI and 84 age- and sex-matched CN controls as well as a cohort of 523 CN subjects of different ages, were enrolled from five hospitals located in different areas of China.
Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogels are widely used for tissue regeneration. Nonetheless, a pure GelMA hydrogel cannot efficiently serve for cartilage regeneration because of weak mechanical properties and brittleness. In this study, we established a mussel-inspired strategy for tuning the mechanical properties of GelMA hydrogels by intercalating oligomers of dopamine methacrylate (ODMA) into the chain of GelMA.
