Article Synopsis
  • Understanding the relationship between the structure and properties of electrocatalysts is essential for designing better materials, and the Aarhus University reactor for electrochemical studies using X-rays (AUREX) provides a versatile and user-friendly setup for this research.
  • The AUREX cell allows for various advanced measurement techniques like total scattering, diffraction, and absorption spectroscopy on commercial silver electrocatalysts, enabling real-time observation of structural changes during electrochemical reactions.
  • The findings reveal that silver transitions from a face-centered cubic structure to other phases under oxidative conditions, and the setup is crucial for studying these phase transitions, highlighting the need for careful beam settings to avoid interference during experiments.

Carbon nitrides that expose atomically dispersed single-atom metals in the form of M-N-C (M = metal) sites are attractive earth-abundant catalyst materials that have been demonstrated in electrocatalytic conversion reactions. The catalytic performance is determined by the abundance of N-doped sites and the type of metal coordination to N, but challenges remain to synthesize pristine carbon nitrides with a high concentration of the most active sites and prepare homogeneously doped materials that allow for in-depth characterization of the M-N-C sites and quantitative evaluation of their catalytic performance. Herein, we have synthesized and characterized a well-defined monolayer carbon nitride phase on a Au(111) surface that exposes an exceedingly high concentration of Co-N sites.

We present the synthesis, crystal structures and optical properties of three thiostannates prepared by using 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine (AEPz) as structure directing agent. Two of the thiostannates are layered materials (AEPz-SnS-1 and AEPz:EtOH-SnS-1) consisting of [SnS] sheets with organic cations located in-between. The third compound is a molecular thiostannate (SnS(AEPzH)) composed of dimeric SnS and AEPzH.

Both Freud and Lacan have made love the object of scientific enquiry, which is in itself remarkable, since we usually turn this subject over to literary and philosophical treatment. This article discusses Freud and Lacan's contributions to the psychology of love through dialogue with Marcel Proust's seminal novel, Remembrance of Things Past, with special emphasis on the middle sections. The point of departure is love's manifestation in the analytical situation.

The author presents a psychoanalytic reading of the Danish author Peter Høeg's masterpiece 'Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow', focusing on the special linguistic style of the novel. Further, the author puts forward an interpretation of the heroine, seeing her as a literary example of female bisexuality. Investigating the heroine's fate, the author discusses Miss Smilla's phallic defence and identity.

The result of the one-hour pad-weighing test proposed by the International Continence Society has been demonstrated to depend on the urine load during the test. To increase reproducibility of the pad-weighing test by minimizing the influence of variation in urine load the test was done with a standardized bladder volume (50% of the cystometric bladder capacity). Twenty-five female patients with stress or mixed incontinence underwent two separate tests.

Fifteen patients with acute unilateral obstruction of ureter and 30 control patients were studied with simultaneous 131I-Hippuran and 99mTc-DTPA gamma camera renography. In severe outflow obstruction the relative function of the obstructed kidney was higher when calculated with Hippuran than with DTPA. No difference was found in the control subjects.

The technique and use of a percutaneous subclavian vein catheter for haemodialysis in 20 patients are reported. The catheterization procedure carried a very low morbidity, and blood flow rates of 200-250 ml/min were achieved through the catheters. Use of this angioaccess saves future possible sites for permanent vascular access.

Based on extensive clinical and clinical chemical information (107 different items) from 1002 jaundiced patients, we developed a diagnostic algorithm which was evaluated on a test sample of another 110 jaundiced patients. A primary classification into categories of obstructive jaundice (probability of obstruction greater than or equal to 0.80), non-obstructive jaundice (probability of obstruction less than or equal to 0.

The accuracy of dynamic transabdominal ultrasonography in the detection of bladder tumors is examined. Of 49 bladder tumors 34 between 2 mm. and several centimeters in size could be demonstrated ultrasonographically.

Abdominal ultrasonic scanning was compared to lymphangiography and intravenous urography in 50 patients with testicular cancer. In 25 lymphangiographic stage I patients, the ultrasonic scanning was normal in all cases, too. In 5 out of 25 lymphangiographic stage II patients, the ultrasonic examination demonstrated a wider extension of the retroperitoneal metastases than combined lymphangiography and urography.

In 55 patients with ultrasonically demonstrated suspected hepatic malignancy, a fine needle aspiration biopsy and a coarse needle biopsy of the same focal lesion were performed under ultrasonic guidance. In 41 of 48 cases with proven malignancy, both biopsies were positive. In the remaining seven cases, only the fine needle aspiration biopsy yielded malignant cells.

In 13 patients with a verified tumor of the rectum, endoluminal ultrasonic scanning was performed to evaluate the degree of tumor infiltration in the muscular wall and the perirectal tissue. In 11 cases the degree of tumor infiltration found by ultrasonic scanning was in complete accordance with the histopathologic finding. In 2 cases the examination was incomplete because the ultrasonic probe could not pass the tumor.

A technique for transrectal ultrasonic volume determination of the prostate, based on the principle of serial planimetry, is presented. The preoperative ultrasonic determinations in 75 cases have been compared to the estimation of size by digital palpation and to the amount of tissue removed at operation. Scannings 6 to 10 weeks postoperatively have shown variable amounts of residual prostatic tissue.

Kidney function and size were studied in seven well-controlled male Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetic patients before and after administration of highly purified human growth hormone for one week. Glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow (steady state infusion technique with urinary collections using 125I-iothalamate and 131I-hippuran), kidney size (ultrasonic scanning) and urinary excretion rates of albumin and beta-2-microglobulin were measured. Highly purified growth hormone was injected subcutaneously, 2 IU in the morning and 4 IU in the evening.

GFR, RPF, and kidney size were measured in nine young recently diagnosed insulin-dependent diabetics before (days 0) and 3 and 8 days after the beginning of the initial insulin treatment and in comparable control subjects. Kidney function was measured by a constant infusion technique using I-125-iothalamate and 131-I-hippuran. Kidney size was determined by means of ultrasound.
