Background: Hypertrophy of the nucleolus is a distinctive cytological feature of malignant cells and corresponds to aggressive behaviour. This study aimed to identify the key gene associated with nucleolar prominence (NP) in breast cancer (BC) and determine its prognostic significance.

Methods: From The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort, digital whole slide images identified cancers having NP served as label and an information theory algorithm was applied to find which mRNA gene best explained NP.

Chitosan coating does not prevent the effect of the transfer of green silver nanoparticles biosynthesized by Streptomyces malachitus into fetuses via the placenta.

Green synthesized nanoparticles are more advantageous over conventionally prepared ones due to less toxicity, production cost, and environmental hazards. With the widespread of the utilization of nanoparticles, little is known about the maternal-fetal transplacental transfer of green nanoparticles. We have biosynthesized silver nanoparticles using metabolites of Streptomyces malachitus and sunlight then coated them with chitosan.

Optimisation and validation of a new analytical method for the determination of four natural and synthetic hormones using LC-ESI-MS/MS.

A rapid liquid chromatographic-tandem mass spectrometric method was developed for the simultaneous determination of four natural and synthetic hormone residues (progesterone, testosterone, trenbolone acetate and zeranol) in animal tissue samples. Sample preparation was optimised to minimise time and solvent consumption. Meat samples were mechanically homogenised and digested in a procedure that gave similar recoveries to those enzymatically hydrolysed by Helix pomatia.

Secondary Advanced Abdominal Pregnancy after Suspected Ruptured Cornual Pregnancy with Good Maternal Outcome: A Case with Unusual Gangrenous Fetal Toes and Ultrasound Diagnoses Managed by Hysterectomy.

Incidence of abdominal pregnancy is accounting for 1.4% of all ectopic pregnancies. This is a rare case report of a 35-year-old multigravida who was presented to our hospital at 24 weeks of gestation with advanced live intraabdominal pregnancy diagnosed by ultrasound.

Maternal satisfaction about childhood immunization in primary health care center, Egypt.

Introduction: Childhood immunization is considered to be among the most effective preventive services, and is therefore critical to monitor and evaluate. One prior study reported an association between parental satisfactions with pediatric care and up-to-date immunization at 24 months independent of maternal age, race, and education. In addition to promoting appropriate utilization, satisfaction may increase engagement in the health care process.

Physical fighting among Egyptian adolescents: social and demographic correlates among a nationally representative sample.

Introduction. Adolescent interpersonal violence is a global public health problem, yet gaps remain in the epidemiologic literature on adolescent violence in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Prevalence rates and risk and protective factors reported in high-income countries may be different from those reported in LMICs.

Plasma soluble corin and N-terminal pro-atrial natriuretic peptide levels in pregnancy induced hypertension.

Objective: One of the theories involved in the pathogenesis of pregnancy induced hypertension involves salt and water retention. We aimed to measure the proenzyme convertase corin, responsible for pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) cleavage to active ANP, in plasma of hypertensive pregnant females.

Study Design: Sixty pregnant females suffering from pregnancy induced hypertension in second and third trimesters of pregnancy were compared to twenty eight healthy pregnant females of the same gestational period.

Structural and ultrastructural evidence of neurotoxic effects of fried potato chips on rat postnatal development.

Objective: Acrylamide (ACR), a proved rodent carcinogen and neurotoxic agent, is present in significant quantities in commonly consumed foods such as fried potato chips (FPC) and French fries, raising a health concern worldwide. We investigated and compared the neurotoxic effects of ACR and FPC on postnatal development.

Methods: Female rats were treated with ACR (30 mg/kg of body weight), fed a diet containing approximately 30% of FPC during pregnancy, or fed a standard diet (control) and their offspring were examined.

Palestinian mothers' perceptions of child mental health problems and services.

The aim of this study was to explore Palestinian mothers' perceptions of child mental health problems and their understanding of their causes; to determine Palestinian mothers' awareness of existing services and sources of help and support; to identify professionals in the community whom Palestinian mothers would consult if their child had mental health problems; and to establish their views on ways of increasing awareness of child mental health issues and services. Checklists exploring the above issues were completed by 249 Palestinian mothers living in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian mothers equally perceived emotional, behavioural and psychotic symptoms as suggestive of mental ill health in childhood.

Radio-immuno assay estimation of plasma endothelin levels in patients with bilharzial and post viral liver cirrhosis: a possible new additive factor in aggravation of portal hypertension.

Radio immunoassay estimation of plasma endothelin level was carried out in 90 patients with bilharzial and post viral chronic liver diseases with portal hypertension associated with bleeding and non bleeding oesophageal varices as well as 10 normal control subjects. It was found that plasma endothelin level was significantly elevated in such patients when compared to normal controls. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between the elevated levels of plasma endothelin and portal vein diameter as well as bleeding oesophageal varices.

Assessment of serum copper and zinc levels in chronic Schistosoma mansoni patients with and without hepatic involvement before and after praziquantel therapy.

Estimation of serum copper and zinc was carried out on 40 Schistosoma mansoni patients with and without hepatosplenic involvement (group A and B respectively) before and after single oral dose of 40 mg praziquantel therapy as well as 20 normal controls (group C). Full clinical examination and assessment of liver function tests was done. HBsAg positive cases were excluded.

Profile of portal hypertension in hepatosplenic schistosomiasis.

Intrasplenic pressure changes versus ova count in stool of schistosomal portal hypertension in cases of bilharzial hepatic fibrosis were studied before and after 40 mg/kg body weight praziquantel therapy. Praziquantel acts on the vascular level in which it decreases the portal hypertension caused by bilharziasis as detected by decreased size of portal and splenic veins diameter as well as a significant decrease of portal pressure by the decrease of intrasplenic pressure (P less than 0.05).

Haemoglobin Saki alpha 2 beta 2 14 Leu-Pro(a11) structure and function.

The characterization of haemoglobin Saki alpha 2 beta 2 14 Leu-Pro(a11) is described. This new mutation is unique since it only induces modification of the stability of the molecule. In vitro precipitation of haemoglobin Saki upon heat or in the presence of chemicals is compared to the stability of haemoglobin A and haemoglobin S.
